Tell me WHY?

Post by kjohn »

I'm in Missouri and here is my question.  We have a new Indian Casino on
the OK border.  It's very close and a beautiful place with 2000 machines.  We
couldn't wait to give it a try but to our disappointment there were  not more
than 50  VP machines.  Of  those are mostly Game King quarter with only 3 game
options....We find the same thing at all the Indian Casinos.  There are so few
VP machines of any type.  I'm wondering, does VP pay out less for the casino
than slots or are there just fewer VP players.  Why do the casinos skimp on VP
machines.  Even the larger Casinos in KC have hundreds more slots to the VP
machines.  There must be statistics that make it a LESS profitable game for the
casino.  Anybody have statistics or answers?

VP (especially if they have the "nearly extinct" full pay tables) will not bring in the money that regular slots will. To the dismay of VP players worldwide, it's a sound business decision to load the place with penny slots that will return more than a VP machine.

One only has to look at the rate at which one earns "comp points" in the player's clubs when playing VP and playing Slots.  VP earns at least half as much for the same coin-in as do slots!

VP and slots are almost two different games. "Real" VP players won't play slots very often. Therefore, it is wise for casinos to have both so they can satisfy both types of customers. I would avoid this casino myself.

I was recently, over the 4th, in St. Louis.  None of their casinos had more than just a few 9/5 machines and only a few 1$ 9/6 games.  I won't be back

Mike A. ,   How do the comps work for Blackjack as opposed to video poker?  Will we all be forced into playing blackjack as the paytables for VP get more and more untenable?

You will not get much in comps for playing $5 Blackjack.  You can ask to be "rated" but they do not pay much attention to you unless you are playing at the Green Chip ($25) level per hand.  If you play all day long, you might be comped a meal at a buffet or something like that.  Or, if you've played badly and lost several hundred, they might comp you a meal.I was playing at The Plaza (Fremont St) back several years ago and after a couple of days playing $5 double deck, I was ahead $500 or so.  I had gotten in pretty good with the Pit Boss and and he watched me buy in for $500 and tackle a dealer heads-up for $25 a hand.  I lost the $500 in about a half hour during a really bad streak of loses.  Later, he saw me place a $100 bet on two spots, one of which I doubled so I had $300 on the table for one hand.  The dealer drew 7 cards to a pat 21 and beat me.  The Pit Boss (Steve was his name) gave me the name of the table games casino host and told me to be sure and check with him before I left.  I checked with the Player's Club and had no comps at all there.A month or so later, we were going to head back out there to Vegas and I remember the slip of paper with the Host's name on it so I gave him a call.  He told me that the next week in Vegas was on them for the room and he'd load my comp count to $150 for meals at either of the two properties (Plaza and Las Vegas Club are managed and owned by the same group).I'd rather not have to "earn" my comps that way!  <LOL>  It was shortly after that experience that I started working on Advantage Play in Blackjack.  And, in Advantage Play, you are in no way going to give them a player's card.  You'd rather be invisible...A Horse With NO NAME!  You do NOT want to be identified!

Yes.  An AP at blackjack if playing aggressively (and that's about the only way to make BJ pay!) a player can expect to be at least "backed off" of a table every once in a while.  It's a lot easier to come back and play there on a different shift if they do not know who you are so when you buy in, you normally do not want to give them anything with your name on it.

Mike A., So for my real question since you were just there:  In your opinion where is  the good VP downtown?  DDB, DW and JoB?   I have plans for Sept. 7 th. thru 11th.
