Horseshoe Casino Hammond Indiana

Post by Lovely Janette »

Has anyone been to the Horseshow in Hammond since the remodel? Wondering how it looks and if the machines are paying?

Janette - The Horseshoe in Hammond Indiana has not opened their new casino yet. The original casino is closing on July 21st and the new casino is having a soft opening on July 26th, the grand opening is scheduled for August 1st. The new facility will be a HUGE improvement over the old location as the gambling space will triple from the original and there will be an auditorium which will have top acts playing there. Being from Illinois I am looking forward to it but I am spoiled without the smoke but thats one drawback I will have to deal with. Good luck, Ted.

Ted - Thanks for the info. I too am from Illinois and LOVE the NO SMOKING law. We recently went to LV and I realized just how much I did not miss the smell of smoke when playing VP. My sister has her boat at the marina right by the Horseshoe. I can't wait to see the new casino. Do you think the Horseshoe will have loose machines when it reopens?

The opening might be delayed as the walkway from land onto the Casino just collasped. 16 workers had to be plucked from Lake Michigan. Boy what a great idea to make Casinos build on water.

faygo - Initially 7 workers fell into the lake and an additional 9 workers jumped in to "rescue" the 7 that went in. All of the workers that went into the water were wearing life preservers and only 1 went to the hospital. The problem now is how to pull the walkway out of the hole between the land based structure and the new vessel. I'm pretty sure that a temporary walkway can be out in place until a permament structure can be built. This one was precast concrete and weighed about 100 tons.

The cost of that is going to be dear. Tedlark, watch out for short paytables.

Wow - with a structure that heavy it certainly is amazing that no one was seriously injured. It must be a sign of good luck!

Great marketing idea: Comped Arm Floaties with $500 buy-in.

The soft opening date for Horseshoe Hammond has been pushed back to Tuesday July 29th from Saturday July 26th. The grand opening is set for August 8th, 08/08/08.

They have been trying to raise the 100 ton walkway and re-use it. Yesterday, Wednesday they worked all night to take the walkway apart and pick the floor up along with some of the sidewalls as one piece. They were attempting to pick the floor section today but onsite engineers were having issues with the way the piece was rigged to get pulled out of Lake Michigan.

I imagine Harrahs will be seeking the lost weekend revenue, shall I mention "opening" weekend revenue, from someone's insurance carrier. This same carrier will be seeing huge bills for the recovery costs as well.

  Stay tuned...
