Just got back from New Orleans Harrah's play/stay for three days. We found 4 machines with 9/6 DDB 25¢ under a special touting 25¢ VP. Most VP tables were 95-97%. - 25¢ to 98% for $. for Best JOB was $5/hand 9/6.   The overall play was lousy for us. On the last night we went to have our one buffet meal comped. Too many other good places to eat at in NO. The VIP rep stated since we didn't have a casino host at the NO Harrah's they couldn't comp the buffet. It was incredible, we have hosts in Laughlin and Vegas but haven't been to NO in 7-8 years. She said if we had called ahead of arrival we might have been temporarily assigned one but she couldn't comp us since we didn't have a local host. They were of course willing to use any Harrah's Rewards Points. I mentioned points play was based on VP which only gets 1/2 points. Response was basically - VP was our choice not theirs. True statement - it is our choice.

Great hotel, great room, low VP pay tables, lack of respect for VP players - wonder why I prefer other casino brands. Can't imagine how the high roller equity owners with all their customer savy lost their way.

Went to the Isle of Capri, Bettendorf, Iowa for the first time in a year last weekend. We quit going because the video poker machines are in the far end of the lower deck and hadn't seen a new machine in 2 years. Well they still haven't gotten any new machines and the paytables are worse. If the boat was sinking I'm not sure if they would give a video poker player a life jacket.

I have spent some time at the Isle of Capri in Bettendorf over the last year and I can't agree with you more. A few of the machines are getting so hard to see the screen they are difficult to play, the selection is small and they are usually tied up for long periods of time. Rhythm City right down the street isn't much better either, I guess people playing there on a regular basis are working under the addage that the video poker there is better than no video poker at all.

A life jacket would be wasted on the average slot/VP player.  Wouldn't even notice that the boat was sinking. 
 
This may be an overly simplistic way of looking at it, but I think casinos keep those old, clunky machines as long as they're being played and aren't costing them too much in maintenance.  Write to the management.  One complaint won't cause anything to change, but if others are writing as well some action may be taken.

Sometimes, them old clunkers with the sticky/non-working buttons and scratched/etched plexiglass screens are all thats available in the house so either stay and play or find another house or gulp, slots?
