Re: Where I play in Vegas
I used to live out that way and used to frequent Vegas. I learned that the best place to play is where the locals play. The best night seemed to be monday nights. Get to chatting with bartenders and find out where they play........it worked for me.

I like to play at Terribles. Just a "down home" and reasonable comp system. Reminds me a lot of a penny arcade, with the little trinkets and toys you can cash comp to get. Saving them for just a short while will get you much better doodads, and dinner... easy! Worst case, use your points for souvinier "junk".
Golden Nugget is still my favorite place to stay, though. Right in the heart of downtown where there's no boredom.
But the Palace (end of Freemont, downtown) is where I hit my first Royal, in order, on a quarter machine. I'll always have fond memories of THAT!!!

The Palace, or the Plaza??
The Plaza (at the end of Fremont) is where I hit 4 deuces for the first time, on a 25c machine (full pay deuces). I still like to play there!
I like the VP selection at the Fiestas, mainly because I play mostly nickels and they have a great selection of full pay nickels.

Whe nwe went last year, we enjoyed the VP at GVR, Terribles, and Texas Station. We didn't play very much at Terrible's, because of the poor service at the player's club booth.

This is their site. Fantastic place to play. It's out by the Red Rock Canyon. I think that is a bit North West.

I've lived in Vegas since 1994. Used to love the Klondike but it's closed now. I play at the Suncoast, Orleans, Fiesta Rancho and Cannery primarily. Do pretty good at Fiesta. Orleans machines are tighter than they used to be. Played a few times at South Coast (now South Point since it was just sold) Hit a royal first time I played there. Used to go to Santa Fe before it became a Stations casino. Machines were looser then. Cannery in North Las Vegas is cool locals casino with pretty loose machines. I've also done pretty well at Dotty's Casino, a small local place.

I restricted most of my play to 4-Queens and Fitzgeralds this last trip out to Sin City. They both have good pay tables on nickel machines. Only thing is that those cheap VP machines at Fitzgeral's pays in coins. Ever cashed in $70 in nickels? Well, I didn't either but it would be a ton of coins! And filthy!
As for the Plaza Downtown (and Las Vegas Club), I've been disappointed in their direction this past year. Barrick's is no longer much (if any) involved in running those two places and both have gone down-hill. Rules changes on the tables have really deterioriated there and it has been my observation that the employees are disgruntled. They are just not the "happy" places they used to be.
