Casino info sharing?????

Post by rascal »

Earlier tonight, I met an attorney from Ohio at a casino in Laughlin. This guy told me that in 2008 he played high limit VP at several casinos in Vegas and won several significant jackpots. He said he won one very large jackpot at one casino, and then the next night he won two very large jackpots at another casino. After he won the second jackpot and the staff was working on the payment, the slot supervisor casually said something to him like this: "So, you are having quite a run of luck, with tonight's wins here and last night's win at XXXX Casino."

Well, the thing of it is that the two casinos are not in the same chain. He had not said anything to anyone at the second casino about the win at the first casino. They had no way to know about the first win that he can figure out.

He thinks the casinos in Vegas may be sharing info about very large winners, perhaps as a security measure. My significant other, who is assistant manager for one of the largest casino resorts in Laughlin, said there is no sharing of info that quickly (one night to the next) unless the casinos are in the same chain, but that sometimes employees move from one casino to another and they take with them their info about whales, which this guy clearly is.

Has anyone on this board ever heard of something like this?

(Note: the attorney from Ohio had no motivation to lie about this, or even embellish it, from what I could tell.)

I believe about 25% of the stuff I hear from the mouths of other players I meet when I'm @ the casinos.  (probably even a smaller percentage from the blackjack dealers)

I can see basic information about "whales" being shared among casinos for security reasons as you said, but not for any other reason.  All that would be needed is name and Social Security number.  If casino "A" shares detailed customer information (phone number, address) with casino "B", it runs the risk of casino "B" luring players away with better offers for rooms and such.

That being said, I know of two cases affecting me where that has happened.  Both times, employees in player relations positions jumped ship to other casinos and took customer records, as I began receiving mail offers from their new employer.  I wasn't a player at either new casino, so I don't see any other way my personal info could have been transferred.

I'm sure casinos have policies against employees taking player info with them when they leave, but in a practical sense I can see those employees doing it.  I wasn't too happy in either case to find that my personal info had been given to another casino without my permission.  Depending on what exactly was taken it's also pretty lax security.  I'd hate to find that someone had that info and was applying for credit cards with it.

What's funny is that in one of the two cases the employee later returned to the first casino and no action was taken against her.  The casino didn't know or didn't care that the employee had taken (stolen!) its information.

the sooner this happens with harrahs as their games stink even the 9/6 job 5c 50 play in laughlin were downgraded to 8/5. i used this to keep my diamond on comp flights and rooms as it was easy to run off $110,000 coin in the average cost (expected value $110,000x 99.54 about 500 in a year with low variance. during this time i would go to vegas reno tahoe with comp rooms( like a time share with a 500 annual fee) i played live poker during holidays against tourists and 100%+ vp during other times. now i am using up my diamond going to tahoe over labor day paying $49 on saturday othe 2 days comp playing 1 point $10 coin in in a garbage 8/5 bp. i am likely going to hike see the sites and look for property. this is the trend of casinos burning up their book of business, they dont realize the weaker players will lose their money to quick and never come back. the casinos need repeat business

rascal,

How large of a jackpot are we talking about, $20k, $50k, $100k. My assumption would be that if the jackpot was in the neighborhood of $100k that word would spread pretty quickly. I know for a fact that video poker is a favorite game of casino employees and that many casino workers have friends or former co-workers at other casinos in town. If I were working the floor and had a near $100k or greater payout during my shift, I would tell my friends about it the next day. Therefore, my conclusion is that someone working the 2nd evening of the jackpots at the other casino knew someone working the previous evening at the 1st casino on the 1st jackpot.

The other possibilty is that when a jackpot over a certain level is hit, let's say $20k, that for security reasons there is a database that all the casinos in Vegas can access to help prevent cheating.

When they tell you they are going to bill you $350/hour, you can believe THAT!

Better yet, do some of the work today and the rest tomorrow, and bill for two days.

For anyone who's thinking of checking the link out, it's not for an article but is a directory of lawyers.  Sneaky.  I can say things like that because I have a sister who's a shyster.

We do have a regular reader of these posts who would find the link useful.  He's always on the lookout for good bankruptcy and tax attorneys.  Well, they don't have to be good as long as they work for free.
