Re: Phoenix area video poker

The new casino in Chandler opens this weekend. I understand the selection of at or near positive return games however is weak.

I checked out the new Wild Horse Pass in Chandler this evening and I was very impressed. It is, by far, the nicest casino hotel in the state of Arizona. Nothing comes close. I'd assume the new Casino Arizona which is to open in the next several months will rival Wild Horse Pass, but for now it stands alone.

It definitely has a Las Vegas resort style casino hotel feel to it. Not so much as a strip mega-resort, but similar to the feel one has entering The M Resort or Allante Station. In fact it strongly resembles The Red Rock in it's interior color and decoration scheme and layout, just not as large. It has a large multi-level parking facility, convention center, showroom and several on-site dining venues. Definitely a must visit for locals and out-of-towners.

As expected, the return tables on video poker are typical Arizona: 96-97% for lower denominations (quarters) and 98-99% for higher denominations (dollars and up or multiplay games with multipliers or multistrike games). The games are mostly, if not all, IGT newer technology machines with high definition flat screen displays and graphics. May even be the new centrally controlled gaming floor, but I'll have to see if the games change around randomly as they go at the Palazzo before I can tell. Absolutely stunning array of plentiful new machines and table games though.

The casino floor was pretty heavy when I arrived, appr 5pm on a Saturday evening. There were some machines available, but not many. By the time I left, appr 7pm, the floor was now packed, hard to move around. RS is going to love the following commentary: with all the new technology, it amazes me that they still can't build a casino this new to funnel the smokers' exhaust quickly up and away from the floor. For such a new complex, I was perplexed that the odor of smoke was so permeated into the air already. But, ah relief, there is a non-smoking casino which is walled off with glass partitions. However, this area was more crammed than the rest of the place.

All in all, great effort for a new facility here in Arizona. It is located just off I-10 several miles south of Phoenix and is no more than a 45 minute drive from anywhere in the Valley of the Sun. Hopefully this marks the standard of the casinos to come here in the Phoenix market and others can improve upon the foundation set here. Good work by the indians on this one. Harrah's Ak-Chin needs to take notes fast!

The information I have is over a year old. The last time I was in phoenix most of the casisno's had lousey pay tables. the exception was malzatan tribe casino. I am not sure of the spelling. It was the ONLY casino with 99% pay tables across the board. Hope this helps. It was about 60 miles from Phoenix.
