Cosmopolitan - Vegas

Post by Mr. Aces »

So I got a sneak peek of this new casino today and - WOW - it is beautiful in so many ways!

Architecturally, it is quite stunning and has some amazing features not seen on the Strip before.  Given it is crammed into 8 1/2 acres, it actually makes getting around and not getting lost much easier.

Their restaurants and shops have never been seen before in Vegas which is impressive and FINALLY - a great Greek restaurant!  Tons of Strip views as every room has a balcony and they have Strip views and balconies at several of the dining venues.

Most importantly, they have really good paytables and they comp on total dollars spent, not just gaming dollars.  This is a great idea, in theory, especially if you enjoy nice meals or go there on business.

They also have a feature in their computer system that when you get a W-2G jackpot you only have to put in your pin number and the machine is immediately released for continued play and you get a total W-2G at the end of the night, not lots of little ones!

Limited game selection on some of the multi-hand games but they'll add them when the units that are compatible with their computer system are released.

I have already told the wife we're going to check it out for a weekend which is saying a lot as we hate to go near the Strip having lived in Vegas for such a long time.

Locals - be sure to check it out and visitors - get it on your list.

Maybe some of those Christopher Walken photos from the Aria will show up here.

I did some nosing around on the Internet, and surprisingly, Cosmo is NOT part of MGM International like Aria, at least as far as their Players Club is concerned. Their Players Club is called "Identity", and, as Aces said, you can earn points for all purchases at that property, not just in the casino. The "VP Penalty" is steep - $50 coin-in playing VP gets you the same points as $15 playing slots.

It IS beautiful.  The line for players club cards was long, but they had people walking around offering temporary cards - so you could play immediately and get real card when you had the time.  I thought it would be packed with no parking, or a very long walk.  It wasn't if you just went to a lower floor in the garage I picked.  Very nice casino.  I agree - it's a MUST SEE.

I have a time share at the Jockey Club which is right next door to the Cosmo.  Will be there in May of 2011 so will get to see it.   Also did they finally open up the sidewalks now so that you can walk down  from Belagio to Monte Carlo and Aria.  It was closed off for construction in November when I was there and you had to go across the street and than back again.  Thanks for the review.

Yes, papag, those sidewalks are open at last! I found that temporary walk very scary! There is a tram from Bellagio to Monte Carlo according to hubby who took it last Mon. Perhaps it stops at Crystal and Aria. I may edit this when I double check stops with him.

yes, that tram does stop at Crystals and Aria.  It's quite a walk from the casino to the tram in the Bellagio.

It was never represented as such. It was a privately owned casino until it defaulted. Mgm was considering purchasing it but that did not happen.
