HARRAH' LAUGHLING Need advice

Post by kjohn »

We just got an offer, today, for a free trip to Harrah's in Laughlin...Totally free, air from the Midwest, room for 4 nights in May...The last time we went to Laughlin was about 8 years ago and it was with an offer from Riverside...That was not a good trip as Riverside was old, smoky and the rooms were not nice....BUT...this looks too good to pass up...SO anyone who has been there in the last couple of years give me some advice...

Is their a good selection of VP games at Harrah's? Are there any other fun casinos in the town? Is it feasible to drive to Vegas for one day to play there? I'm thinking we should book the flight but really don't want to stay if the Harrah's is a dumpy place...Are the rooms nice?   All you Laughlin players give me advice quick....Thanks KJ

We stay at Harrah's in Laughlin during the summer.  The rooms are a little small but clean.  We will be back again this year.

I have been to Laughlin (Harrah's) two times per year since 1999.  Just returned Feb. 26 from a 10 day stay.  Had suite on 15th floor of tower 1 (adult tower).  The room was beautiful and the cleaning and other services were top notch.  The premium center has a good variety of vp choices from $1 to $25. from single play to 10 play.  The non-smoking casino has fewer vp games but there are some at the bar. The bar in the smoking casino has vp with 1-3 play .25 to $5.  If you are traveling there on a Harrah's junket you will probably be taking Allegiant Air directly into BullHead City Arizona.  They do a fine job in all respects.  I personally love the place and can't wait to return.  The Golden nugget has a lot ofvp games but some are older models (use tokens).  The River palms has a lot of vp games as does the Colorado Belle and the Tropicana Express.  If you like seafood try the steam pots at Joe's crab shack in the golden nugget or the range steakhouse at Harrah's.  Hope this helps, Ted in Pa.

kjohn,
Make the trip to Laughlin and have a great time. Sweet C and I have been there twice. Last time we stayed at Harrah's rooms were nice (ask for a corner river view). Sweet C hit her first progressive RF there. That time of the year will be really nice.

We recommend the steaks at the "Salt Grass Steak House" in the Golden Nuggets owned by the Tilman Fertitta (cousin to the the Fertitta's who own Red Rock and the Station casinos in Vegas).

Make sure you take a trip over to the dam/park area on Bullhead side. If you have a car you can make Vegas and back in a day.

Laughlin is the opposite of Vegas. Laidback, slower paced, and keep in mind when we went several years ago (in our late 50's) we were the youngsters playing in the casinos. You will fit right in with the crowd.

Good Luck! Hit a RF or two....

Hi KJohn,
I go to Laughlin every couple of months, and I really like Harrah's in Laughlin - Mexican food restaurant is very good! Rooms and casino are plenty nice, and the staff are fun.  They do have lots of VP, but the pay tables are much better at Aquarius which is just down the street, would need a car or taxi ride as Harrah's is kind of away from the other casinos that are on the riverwalk.  Vegas is 90 minutes from Laughlin through Searchlight - not a bad drive.  I hope that you go. You are sure to have a nice time, and I wish you lots of GREAT hits.  Please give us a trip report with pictures!!

Lots of good input...Thanks...We are heading to Vegas the middle of April so it will be a quick turn around if we go to Laughlin...But what else do you do when your almost 70? Oh yea, baby sit grandkids...LOL...We've been to the dam.   My engineer husband has watched the progress from day one...I just don't know if we can do three days in the place...Hubby doesn't gamble!!! Can you imagine that?? If we go we'll rent a car for sure and maybe take some side trips...Back to Vegas for a day or other places...Any ideas on DAY trips from Laughlin...How about Lake Havasu? Also thought about some sort of a float trip on the river...Now there's a thought...I'm not too concerned about pay tables on a short trip..As long as there are at least 8/5. I mean how many FH's can you get in several hours playing $.25. Probably not enough to make a huge difference either way..

Another thought on the "free" Laughlin trip..We would fly in Thurs. spend the night .. rent a car and drive to Vegas and spend two night there, (we get free rooms) and then drive back to Laughlin for the last night and free flight home....Any thought on that...I wondered if you didn't sleep in the room at Harrah's for two nights if they would come looking for you or kick you off the return flight.

The last time I was in Laughlin was 1997. Do they still have the boat ( water taxi ) that goes to each casino on the river?

Yes.  It's $4 per person per one way trip.  They also have a daily pass - I don't know what it costs.

I believe the daily pass is $12, however, if you want to casino hop why don't you just ride from Harrah's to either the River Palms or Riverside and then just walk along the riverwalk to the various other casinos and return to Harrahs.

To the right of the check-in desk is an area that has tours of the various attractions around Laughlin, i.e., Oatman, AZ (wild west town, burros), Lake Havasu, Davis Dam, Route 66, etc.

Right now there is extensive road reconstruction on Casino Drive due to replacement of gas lines, telephone lines, water lines).  If you do rent a car, you just need to take your time driving.

If you have never flown into Bullhead City for Harrahs before, once you deplane, you are directed to the busses that you take you to the hotel.  Your bags are delivered to your assigned rooms within 2 hours.  Once you reach the hotel, you go the the area where you will pick up your envelope which tells you the tower, floor and room number on the front, inside is your room key, a Harrahs playing card and departure information.

In my opinion, Laughlin is like Vegas, you will either love it or hate it.  I love it for its layback atmosphere and the fact they have a non-smoking casino, not as large as the smoking one but it seems there are less and less smokers these days so it is not too bad, plus you are always go outside and sit on the beach if you are tired of gambling.
