tipping on a win

Post by valden »

What do people tip the person who brings the winnings. I won 1500.00 on a quarter slot in Niagara Falls and gave the girl 50.00. My friend said I didn't have to do that and that it was too much. She told me she would have given 20. Val

As it should be, tipping is a personal choice. Tip what you feel is appropriate. That said, a recent survey showed the most "common" tip is 1% of jackpots $500 and up.

That sounds like what i heard(survey), but the one i heard about said that the amount over $2000 is generally tipped at 0.5%. I.E.: $4000 hit =$30 toke.2000x1%, 2000x0.5%. Like shadowman said though, it is up to you.

I base it on $5 per thou, but I truly believe that a tip should not be taken for granted, that it should be earned. An extra-cheerful, extra prompt attendant might get more than $5 per thou. There have been a few times when I have not tipped at all. One of these occasions occurred when I was at a LV casino very early in the morning when there were few players, quite a few attendants, and no reason whatsoever not to expect excellent service. However, after I hit my jackpot I waited almost 20 minutes for someone to show up and my tip demonstrated my displeasure. In addition, on a larger than normal jackpot ($8,000+) my tip reaches a cap real soon.
Part of the problem in LV is that tourists with tourist attitudes seem to tip regardless, and the attendants can get a bit lazy. FTR, the jackpot comes up in the central cashier's booth on each floor where the attendants congregate at the same moment you hit it, and unless the casino is quite crowded an attendant should be headed your way within seconds of the win.

The following did not happen in LV: I was playing on the Mississippi Gulf Coast at the Imperial Palace (now IP). I hit for $4K and gave the attendant $20. A few minutes later as I was counting my money and dividing it into several different sections of my wallet, the attendant returned with a $100 bill.

"I don't think you meant to give me this much, did you?" she asked. Apparently, in the gloom I handed her a $100 bill instead of a $20 bill and the very honest lady realized the mistake as she was walking away and she returned the money. Needless to say, she ended up with more than $20.

However, at some casinos the tips go into a pool and are evenly divided up at the end of the shift, so you are tipping bad service as well as good service.

My former girlfriend is a casino assistant manager in one of the largest chains, and she has told me that a good LV attendant who smiles and keeps moving can easily clear $60-70K per year. And there are some very good cocktail waitresses who work the premium shifts who clear even more!

60-70k per year? Lordy. For that kind of scratch could put plumbing in the trailer. And get me some of them fake teeth implants. These two front teeth is looking bad.

I have only tipped on a couple of occasions because I really don't feel the need to tip. I do a job and earn a living and have never got a tip other than when I used to sack groceries sometimes after loading them for the customer I would get a quarter. Regardless of what they make per hour it should not be up to casino customers to pad the employees salary. I hit jackpots of around $90K last year out of all that I came out ahead around $5K had I tipped the the 1% on jackpots $500 or more it would have been around $900 for the year. The two times I did tip were because the attendent had taken the time to notice I was a regular and given me some free play coupons other than that a attendent has nothing other than thier job for me. Something extra will get my attention but doing what I expect you to do will get you a Thank You!

Tipping is for suckers, fools.
I like poker guy have never been tipped in any job.  I am not in charge of what people make, nor does someone dictate what I make.
Pay people what you need to keep them, don't depend on tips anywhere.
If service is bad , don't return.

From a professional player's point of view who gets around half-a-million in W2G's on average each year, I never tip anyone in a casino other than bartenders and cocktail waitresses--and the cuter the ass the more they get.

There's absolutely no reason to tip people who pay hand pays. Only those who are intimidated do so. It's simply a discipline thing. The bosses are there floating around hoping you lose so it'll help the bottom line and they can keep their job, the host assigned to you is PRAYING you'll lose so they can both keep their job and get their commission (some casinos), and the floor people are torn between wanting you to win and lose because they want the tips from the saps who'll pay but they also want their jobs to stay. You're risking your money in a gambling endeavor. They don't care one bit about you until you win something. You pay them for paying you then you've been suckered in by yet ANOTHER casino reason for giving your money to them.
