multi game machines

Post by iluvsummer »

When playing a multi game machine and you switch games lets say from playing jokers wild to deuces wild  is it still the same deck of cards ?It seems that when i switch games i hit more 4 of a kinds then if i stay on the same game.If there is 6 different games on one machine does each game have a different set of cards? What about multi game machines that have keno, let it ride and video poker games all on the same machine?

In video poker the "virtual" deck of cards is conceptually being shuffled between every hand thousands of times. This is accomplished via the random number generator (RNG). The exact algorithm is not published by the game manufacturers. One way to think about this is that you get a new deck every hand which would also mean a new deck when you switch games as well.

If you play more and more you will see certain patterns come and go. Once I had an entire 6 month period where I seemed to hit an unsuited 2345 for a straight amost 50% of the time (usually with an ace). I no longer see this. Randomness creates quirkyness. I suspect if you decided to switch games continually over several months of play you would see that the quads really don't come more often.

I would think a more important question would be if the same program is being used for each of the denominations on a multi-game machine. Although there aren't many, I look for those where the $1 BP program is different than the $2 BP and/or $5 BP program in hopes of detecting a game operating in a hot cycle.

Regarding the 2345 straight issue: I began noticing the frequency of hitting the straight mostly with an Ace 2 years ago, and when the Ace appears it's been in cards #1 or 2's space 99% of the time. Whenever the straight hits with a 6 it's always been on one of the other 3 positions. It is the most common straight I hit by far.

I doubt very much that the programs are EVER different. It would WASTE memory (higher product cost = less profitability) having multiple copies of the same program when it is totally unneeded. When the denom is selected it only needs to take up one memory location whereas a second program would take thousands of bytes of memory. The ONLY possible reason to have multiple copies of a program would be a legal requirement and I'm not aware of any.

There is no such thing as a "hot cycle" per NV regulation 14.040.

I just said I find them. I played one at Red rock on Tuesday. I know you prefer to see for yourself because you want to be first in line to proclaim anything and everything about video poker, but face it--you just aren't in that league.

I am very new to video poker so sorry if i am confused. I thought every card was supposed to be random all the time. You mean sometimes even the position of a card has a different likelyness? I have not heard that anywhere.  Where did you read this? Are you sure that is true on actual licensed machines because i thought i read here that only unregulated machines could have weird things like that.If that is the case on real machines then why should i even bother trying to learn how to play right when the machine might just be programmed different from what i read? I think the book you read might have had something wrong or maybe they were talking about a certain game type because all I have read so far seems very different. You probably have been playing much longer than me so I would like to hear more if I am wrong. I have not even played yet in a real casino, only practice, so i want to know the real rules before i go play.

Interesting. So how did you accomplish this feat? Did you open up the machine, remove the game chip, download the program from the EPROM, disassemble the program, decode the program logic and determine two copies of the program existed. All this and no one even noticed ...

No, I took the simple route because it's not as difficult as you might think. I looked at the last hand displayed on 25c BP then I looked at the last hand displayed on $1 BP and then on $5. They were all different, whereas on most machines they are the same. When they're the same means the denominations all utilize the same program, and when they're not....take a guess.

I have no answers and because it isn't an important cog in my play strategy I don't really care. I didn't change my holds because of it and I don't recommend you do either, unless someone ever comes along and offers viable evidence of it as I have with the hot/cold cycle issue.
