Hog Heaven - Biker Bucks!

Post by babybubba »

Got home 2 hours ago from the 2007 Laughlin River Run--a GREAT time if you like bikes, but left much earlier than expected. I went alone because my wife had to work Fri. very late, but she flew up to LV and waited for me to show at Caesar's Saturday morning - where I rumbled up to both play a session and get the free video ipod they invited me in for. For the first time ever she was with me while I played Single-Play Strategy, you know, the one always maligned by the so-called "experts" out there....
She loves Red Rock and so do I, so I parked the bike and rented a car to go out there. The session went lousy as I tanked through the $5 level. Went back to Caesar's and had dinner at Rao's, where we made reservations for about a month ago. After a long and very enjoyable meal she went to bed and I got back at the machines. I'm not a real fan of playing late Saturdays there because it's so crowded--even in the high limit areas. I had some cashouts but eventually worked my way up to the $25 machine, lost $2500 on BP, then on 9/5 DDB (yes, very NEGATIVE EV experts) held two Aces and drew A4A for a take-home profit of $40,025. I left no tip, went upstairs and told my wife I'd meet her at the airport later today, and drove straight home in the best weather on the planet.

I figure I "lost" at least $15/hour playing such a negative game!  YEAH! What a loser.

$40,000 and no tip??  You seem to take pride in stiffing the attendants as I have seen from your other posts.  As someone who relies on tips for a living (I'm a poker dealer) that really hits home.  It's fine if you prefer to not tip, that's your perogative.. but there is no need to brag about it.

Is that a $50,000 win? Can you post that W2G? I would love to see something like that. I've never gotten a W2G. My girlfriend gets a lot of them though but not big like that!!!!!

Yes it was a $50k win, and where's it written that a slot winner had to tip the floor person/people who pay him/her for gambling their own money and winning something? I don't care for the way they try to intimidate the player into feeling like they are "obligated" to scrape a few bills off the top and hand them over. For what? I don't tip my stockbroker when my stocks go up instead of down, and when they go down they don't care one way or the other on how or if it affects me. I would, however, tip a talbe games dealer if I were doing well--that's a far vry from slot attendants who do nothing for a tip.

After that guy Brodie, who hit those two $240k royals last week at Caesar's, finished his loooog sessions he probably did pay the floor people something for recording his W2G wins and crediting up the machine--IF he walked out of there with any profit at all that is. I know who he is and I've seen him in various casinos always pounding away at the $100 machines like there's no tomorrow. Never anything less--and I'm not there all that much. It is truly sick and there's no way he'll hold onto any of his tournament poker winnings playing like that.

Newbie Cindy: Caesar's doesn't issue W2G's and instead mails them. If you really need to see a W2G I's suggest asking Shadowman or another winner here to let you see what they look like right now.

God Bless America.

It isn't written that anyone HAS to tip for any kind of service.  But even though you feel that it is different from tipping a dealer, it really isn't all that different.  The attendants at Showboat in AC make minimum wage or slightly higher, so they rely on tips for the majority of their income.. as do us dealers..  They are providing a service just like I do when I deal poker.

You state that you shouldn't have to tip for gambling your own money away and winning, but aren't you doing the exact same thing when you're playing a table game?  Are you not gambling your own money?

Sure, it's not as common to see people tipping the attendants, but I feel that in any job that you are provided a service in the casino, it warrants some kind of tip.. whether it be a cocktail waitress, a bartender, a dealer, or an attendant.

We are talking about employees of a casino right ? How about the guy who holds the door open for me when I arrive and when I leave or the restroom attendent don't they provide a valuable service also. The only person in a casino that I tip is the waitress that brings me my diet coke and thats only because I'm hoping she might come back again. How do any of these so called services (I call them requirements) warrant some kind of a tip, am I missing something? Whats a dealer gonna do if I don't tip them, quit dealing cards to me? If I do tip them will I get better cards? If I do get good cards was it because of them? Same thing goes for the attendents while I will say I'm sorry for the fact that so many casino employees earn little more than minimum wage I'll also add thats its not my problem. I'm not complaining about what I do but I work my tail off without tips or a bonus. It sucks that casinos take in so much money and pay thier employees so bad.

Why is a service job in a casino any different than a service job in a store, movie theater, bank, etc.? I might play 10 minutes a year at a table game so because of my inexperience I might give a small tip if I win. That's hardly the same as playing a machine where no one does anything for me for hours sometimes but then I hit something and they're all over me. I actually enjoy stiffing them because of their arrogant attitude of seemingly being OWED a tip for their momentary service.

You could say that most common tipped positions are also requirements as well.  If you don't tip your waiter at a restaurant, they are still going to bring your food.  If you don't tip the valet, they're still going to park your car.. but most people still do tip for those services.

As for dealers, no, we won't stop dealing to you if you don't tip, and no, you won't get better cards if you do tip.  But, we do rely on those tips for our income.  I get paid $4.00/hr as a dealer from the casino.  After taxes on our wages, taxes on our tips which are taken from our paycheck, 401k and benefit deductions, our checks are pretty much less than $75/wk.  Now, we do really well on our tips, but without those, we'd be up sh1t-creek.. LOL

Like I said in my 1st post.  Tipping is always optional, no one is required to do so.  I just wish that some people would have to work one of those jobs just one day to see what it's like, though..

Rob,

I'm not sure how the attendants operate there in NV, but I've never had an issue with one in AC where they were arrogant in that they were "owed" a tip.  Sure, they appreciate the thought of getting a tip, but I've never encountered one that was begging for one.

You might need to be paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in hand pays each year for a few years in order to recognize the attitude.

I understand how one in your position would hope tips come their way. It just doesn't add up to me which may be a reason why I never went into that type business.
