It's not the denomination...it's the SWITCHING to denomination.  That would allow for the RNG to cycle a couple of billion times

Now that makes sense. Thanks.

I wasn't as clear as I should have been. The Royal was delivered because of where you were at that moment in time. The sequence of events that led you to choose the denomination and advance to that hand produced a coincidence of the moment. Had you selected another denomination -- or paused to sneeze for that matter --  there is no way that the same hand would have been delivered at the exact same fraction of a second.

Hmmm....based on "probabilities", I've been playing my simulated Double Bonus game for over 10,000 hands.  I've hit no Royals.  I haven't hit a good quad (800 in Aces) in over 2,000 hands.  I'm flying to Vegas today.  I'm "DUE" right?  Or should I play the simulator to closer to 40,000 hands before I can expect to be "due" for the Royal?   I don't see a smilie for "tongue in cheek".

Hit my first ever ROYAL today on 50cent bonus poker. What a rush!
Held four cards  as usual thinking I do this all the time and the 5th card never shows up. Boom - there it is. I called it a day. It is a great feeling.
Beats the heck out of a quad don't you know.

MikeA, as I have stated many times, the probabilities kicked out by both casinos and the experts are based on the experiences of many players over a lengthy period of time. How do you decide when to start and stop your 40,000 hands? You don't. When you finally die, we can take all the hands you have ayed in your entire life and perhaps your Royals will finally average out to close to the norm of 1 per 40K hands. For a sample size of 500,000 video poker players over the course of a casino's fiscal year, 1 in 40K is pretty close. But for one player, the result can be 10 in 40K or 0 in 40K without anything being fishy. Video poker takes some skill, but the bottom line is luck, and one lucky individual can easily beat the 1-in-40K odds while his unlucky neighbor playing the same number of hands has never hit a Royal. But these two players, along with 499,998 others, over the course of a year, are right on target as a group!
I have had 2 RFs in the past year not counting the one I accidently threw away as it was dealt to me and I got so excited that I accidently hit  the wrong button on the unfamiliar machine and instead of holding the card, I hit the draw button...............boo hoo for me.

Think you're mistaken.  Dealt royals get held automatically and begin to pay out.  I'm pretty sure you couldn't have thrown it away.
This was on a Cat 2 video lottery terminal in aWNY OTB casino, playing on a 25 cent Match Card Poker machine.  Don't try to spoil a good story with what you THINK are the facts.  Believe me, this really happened to me....end of story!

I know Rascal....that was a bit of a sarcastic comment in an attempt at expressing my warpped sense of humor!

I didn't hit a Royal on this short trip.  I did hit several quads, the best one being Aces on Double Bonus for 800 credits.

I've only hit one royal flush, and it was a real surprise, since all
five cards were dealt to me. And there was no chance of accidentally
hitting a wrong button, since the machine locked up immediately and
flashed "Jackpot Call Attendant."

As for how many cards to hold when trying for a royal, I look at it
this way. People draw three cards to a royal quite frequently, although
they may not necessarily be "going for the royal" if that makes any
sense. They're merely holding the cards that offer the best chance of a
win. Holding two cards (Jack or better) of the same suit and drawing
three is the correct play on hands that offer no other possibilities.
Discarding a pair to do that, however, is definitely a mistake.

Drawing two to a royal is tempting, but it's too much of a long shot.
I'll play the hand the way that offers the best chance for a payout,
and go for the royal when a decent chance at it - needing only one -
comes up.
