I NEVER win playing video poker anymore.

Post by cubd1 »

I've hit a few Royals over the years and had good times in the past. I mostly play nickles. I like ten play the best. I often play Double Double Super Times Pay, it's my favorite of the "gimmicky" games. (I should state that I know optimum strategy.)

This year I've won nothing (except for two different days in which I flopped threes w/ kicker and each day put me ahead a few hundred -- those were the only "good" days out of dozens of "bad" days).

It's impossible to even get ahead slightly. I lose fast, too. One Royal this year, that got me back to "even" for the session -- $200 bucks. I'm supposed to be excited about that?

I notice I'm usually hoping to FLOP four of a kind at this point. I'm losing so bad and so far down.

Flopping four of a kind or a Royal is the only way to make any kind of meaningful win.

I'M SO FAR DOWN I'D HAVE TO HIT DOZENS OF $200 .05 cent Royals in a sitting.

I'M SO FAR DOWN I'D HAVE TO FLOP FOUR 2,3,4s WITH A KICKER ABOUT TEN OR FIFTEEN TIMES IN ONE SITTING JUST TO
GET EVEN!

I'M SO FAR DOWN I NEED A ROYAL X10 ON TEN PLAY DOUBLE DOUBLE SUPER TIMES PAY JUST TO HOPE TO GET SOME MONEY BACK.

You can never get it back.

I look at the photos posted here -- which are really cool -- and it's been years since I had to fill out an IRS form. Years since a handpay. Thousands and thousands lost, though.

Some of the people here seem to routinely hit huge, massive payouts.

I'm thinking of switching to .25.

I'm already losing massive amounts playing .5, why not give myself a chance at a big with win .25?

I guarantee you that for every picture you see posted, a ton of $ was lost.  People will generally lose at vp.  Unless you are a "pro" or you can convince yourself that you are always ahead, the truth will eventually prevail. The best way to ruin the game of vp is to expect to ever win your money back. That $ is gone..........history.  OFcourse you can get lucky and hit a nice hit right at the beggining of a session. Its possible to have good days just not likely. Lets face it, those pretty casinos arent cheap to build and maintain.

I've never seen a Supertimes game with a pay table that returns over 100%. And I'm fairly sure 10-play DDB nickels doesn't have a pay table better than 8/5, more likely 7/5. There's a good chance it's only a 6/5 game which returns less than 95% with perfect play. That means, on average you're losing $5 every $100 bet.
Using a 6/5 pay table and 10-play nickels as an example at a slow 8 hands per minute, the player would be losing approximately $5 every four minutes, or $75/hour.

Regardless, over time, no matter how optimal the play, you will NEVER win money playing this game.

We all get in "slumps" when it comes to VP. If I don't hit something with 100 bucks, then I just don't go back for a while. I stick to the few machines that have given me success in the past. Most of the time that system works for me. I just play for fun, not an income. Good luck to you.

I agree. I think the problem is I'm playing machines with pretty poor paytables. The DDSTP never has good pay tables. I need to pay closer attention to them.

More positive pay tables, if available to you, should always be part of your playing strategy, in my opinion. But if you enjoy playing games that are less than positive, you need to consider your bankroll for gaming, and ensure that it is sufficient to give you the opportunity to hit some of those premium hands. I, personally, set WIN/LOSS limits for myself when I play. This keeps me from getting wiped out early in a gaming trip, and sometimes, leave with a little of the casino's money.

Super Times Pay is a losing game, that's for sure.

That said, I am one of the few people that I know of who is positive on this game, but only because of a huge lucky strike where all of the stars lined up for me. I also had several other smaller but still pricy hits, and the total of all three hits makes me positive on this game over the years I have been playing it. But without these lucky strikes (and it was sheer luck, absolutely nothing else) I would be negative.

There is a guy on this forum who constantly posts nice STP hits, but he never posts the real numbers, which are: Total dollars you took into the casino vs total dollars you took out of the casino.

Anyway, bottom line is that you are not special.....video poker is a losing proposition, and your choice of games makes it even more so.

Who Does???  What a silly thing to say.  I don't think I've every seen anyone post their W/L Spreadsheet here.  Not even you rascal.

No you can never get it back.  No one should EVER play video poker with the hope or intention of winning or coming out ahead in the long run. If you are losing lots of money and it is becoming a concern then please stop NOW.  If you stop I can assure you that in 5 years time you will have enough money saved that it will equal some of those big hits you are dreaming of and more.

Great advice.

I don't appreciate the wins anymore, when they come.

Flopped 3s w/ kicker twice a while back (ten play), all told both wins equaled close to $1000. Didn't really appreciate it. Was thinking too much about losses.

I also think I have a fundamental misunderstanding of the game. I treat it was though if ONE big hand hits, MORE must be around the corner. I don't stop when I hit something big.

Couple that with the habit of playing low-return games with very high variance, and I'm screwing myself, big time.

I also play at the FASTEST setting! So it goes even quicker!

It's just gotten out of hand.
