Dave..just don't let Vegas overwhelm you. As long as I can remember, locals have their favorite places to play that are not as well known as the larger strip casinos. The casinos mentioned above Palms, Gold Coast, Orleans and the Rio are all within a mile of each other and I know many locals utilize these casinos. Easy to locate. Got one, got them all. Other local favorites, in my considered opinion, are Main Street Station, and The California, which are located across the steet from each other, downtown. Over 20 years, Main Street has been my place to go. Sam's Town out on Boulder Highway was a favorite, but it is a ways out of town, but going out Boulder Highway, you have other casinos you can try. I look at Vegas as a very compact little town that has become overwhelmed by new freeways and lots of people. With 30 plus years of Vegas experience has taught me that the strip hotels are beautiful to see but if you are a VP player, not so great. You will have a wonderful time . We all have "OUR" place that we enjoy the most, so keep in mind the suggestions above, and see which one works for you.We do expect all your jackpots to be posted, so keep that in mind, and go and have a BLAST.

Now a question for all my Vegas buddies? Where would you recommend someone to go for "a really good dinner", other than buffets? I am in the $$-$$$ category. Eating is not a priority for me when I am in Vegas. Its a diversion and a necessity, but it takes away from my playing time, so I don't pay that much attention to it. Strip, downtown or where? We used to like the Brew Pub at Main Street, but the last time we went there it wasn't that great. Suggestions?

Thanks for the info, Cook and Mendon. Our daughter lives in Colorado Springs, so we would be coming from that direction. Probably go to Black Hawk, then take 70 to 15. Depends on how much time my wife can take off from work. Probably not til next winter, or maybe after she retires, in a couple years. Dave

Huntington Press publishes an annual called Eating Las Vegas. It will contain far more information than any forum post. It's like $10.http://www.shoplva.com/collections/othe ... vegas-2013

Quad, I was simply asking a social responce to the question. I know just about all the restaurants in town, but a recommendation from a friend is more qualifying that a page in a book. If someone simply wanted to know what my opinion of a good place to eat would be, i would respond from my own experience.

Sorry. I don't expect someone asking about restaurants in a "first timer's" thread to know about every restaurant in Vegas.I, myself, could eat Archi's Thai every damn day.

Hi Everyone,
First I want to say that I really appreciate everyone's feedback. My wife and I are very excited to leave in 3 weeks and I'm making my final arrangements for the trip.
Second, how are the comps at the Palms? Can anyone tell me how the comps are at Wynn or Bellagio (from your experiences)? Do you think it would be worthwhile contacting a host at Wynn even though I'm no "high-roller"?
Keep those suggestions coming....
Thanks Again,
yankees4ever31
