Horseshoe/Tunica
Read the post about Horseshoe/Cincinnati and found myself at the Horseshoe Casino in Tunica because a few freinds drug me there. I couldn't bring myself to play so I watched the other guys punch away on those terrible machines, bad buttons, poor graphics and jumpy screens was the theme of the day there. I wouldn't have played that crap even if the machines were brand new, $1 denomination was what they were playing with a payback [ercemtage of 95.71% and 96.87%. I tried to warn them there was far better vp right across the road at the Roadhouse casino or down the road at The Fitz or Harrah's, they wouldn't listen and they all lost their butts. Warning to anyone else planning a trip to Tunica to play VP. don't bother with Horseshoe, I walked over and checked the $5 denomination also and they had the same payback, 96.87%.

Actually Horseshoe Tunica has ONE playable bank now; one more than Gold Strike...lol It's a 9/6 DDB 5-play (3-play has a worse paytable) for nickels, dimes, or quarters. It's a bank of 4 "Build A Wheel" Poker machines. The optional "Build A Wheel" bet is 5 more credits per round, and adds about 0.15% return to the overall game, and a LOT more variance...
I played it last trip for a little while, but it just ate my money since I was card dead.
Roadhouse still has better machines (40/10/6 DDB), but if you are stuck playing at Horseshoe, "Build A Wheel" 5-play, 9/6 DDB is the game you should play. It is surprising this exists though, Horseshoe really does have garbage paytables everywhere else, probably some of the worst in Tunica.

I don't know of any casino in Tunica than worse paytables as Horseshoe, even Fitzgeralds raised their paytables for the game I play. I play $2 denomination with a little $5 mixed in, most of the vp in Tunica for those denominations are 9/6/4. I jave no idea why anyone would play there when they could take a very short walk over to Roadhouse.

sounds like we will be walking over to roadhouse quite a bit, is their VP still upstairs? last time i was there, it dominated the upstairs area.any decent progressive machines anywhere? sams used to have .25 suit progressives by the poker room i recall. horseshoe's bar machines were progressive (normally pretty high, i hit one for 2400 last time i was there) dont recall the paytable but im sure it was bad.

I think you're getting Gold Strike confused with Roadhouse. A lot of Gold Strike's VP is upstairs near the poker room, but I usually play nickel Double STP (8/5 DDB; 97.27%) just to the right of the main entrance. The Roadhouse has the same game for as cheap as 2 cents (14 cents/hand).
As for progressives, most bars in Tunica have them, and the paytables usually aren't as good, especially at Horseshoe. Roadhouse and Fitzgerald's both have 9/5 DDB at casino bars with progressive royals. Technically the best game on Roadhouse's bar bank is Deuces though. Also Roadhouse has a 100 penny progressive that got up to $1070 when I was there last, which made 9/6 JoB a +EV game. That machine was a Game King though, so you might be able to play 9/6 DDB on that game as well. But since Roadhouse has 40/10/6 DDB less than 5 feet away for quarters, I'd personally just play that instead. Sam's still has the suit progressives, but I think the base pays might have been only 8/5 DDB.
And you hit for $2400 last time? Quarters or fifty cents? Quarters would have been a hell of a hit.

it was quarters, at the stage bar at horseshoe. about 3 years ago.
i was referring to roadhouse (old sheraton). middle of the casino there are 2 round staircases. up those stairs it was all video poker. around the staircase, the nook behind etc.
i know strike has their poker room upstairs surrounded by vp as well...
ill just be looking for high progressives - we'll see what happens.

They also have the 100 Penny at Southland Park in West Memphis. What I noticed at those games, was not many people play 100 coins at the penny level, so they do tend to have high progressives quite frequently. Dave

I noticed that also, the type of crowd they draw has improved a tad as to when they first opened. The security has improved also, it used to be a little rough in that place and I wouldn't take my wife, not so much now. Couple of funny stories about the place you might be familiar with that seemed so fitting when they first opened up. They were having a drawing for a truck and the place was packed to the brim with folks hoping to win a stripped down Ford F-150, kind of a step down from what you see in the Tunica area, not exactly a new Vette or BMW. They also had a big promotion going a few years back, "win a new home". You may have seen it on the side of the road going down I-55, a single wide trailor, I laughed everytime a drove by. The place has grown though and while they're not quite Tunica it's not a bad place to play as long as the cigar guy isn't there.
