Mohegan Sun/ Foxwoods Help

Post by Lucky Larry »

Sweet C and I need your help. We're headed to Providence, Boston, Cape Cod to explore the area. We will have two nights (Friday/Saturday) possible Sunday near Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. Any help on the best VP would be appreciated. I'll check VPfree before we go but i'm sure some of you have recommendations. We're thinking of doing one casino each night.

What type of pay tables or we looking at on VP? (5¢-25¢)
Best multi-hand VP?
Any recommended eateries?
Or just general advice?

Thanks,
We'll be able to mark these off our "G" bucket list.

First off, Larry, PLEASE drive carefully.....I live in Western Massachusetts, about 75 minutes from Foxwoods/Mohegan Sun, and while I no longer am able to drive at all due to my disability, I do know that whomever I ride with, be it family, friends or a bus and we head to these two casinos, the driving can be very treacherous unless you stay on the highways as much as possible.  You will be coming from the opposite direction I always come, so I can only urge you to study the maps closely and  get a rental with GPS.  The backwoods and roads around the Casinos in Connecticut are notoriously under repaired and developed, and at night there is almost NO lights for long stretches at a time. If you are staying overnight and do not want to pay the ridiculous room fees they charge, there are a number of good quality Inns and Hotel/Motels nearby like Holiday Inn, Mariott and a few other chains that are far less expensive than the Foxwoods or Mohegan and within 5 minutes drive, or they all have shuttles leaving every 30 minutes. That being said, as far as VP goes, the only applicable advice I can give is this:  DO YOUR Due Diligence once you arrive....before you even play a hand, carefully go around and examine the various machines to see what paytables and denoms are on tap for the weekend you are there.....reason I say this is this:  Both places are known to change it up and mix it up constantly, and this can be both a good and bad thing for obvious reasons.   Like Bib Dancer once pointed out, Paytables are manually set so the room for human error is always there, and I have uncovered my fair share of "mistakes" at these two "NATIVE AMERICAN" dens of capitalism;  you and your wife should approach it like a easter egg hunt and you may find a goody or two of a paytable.   One time I found a 9/6 JOB that STILL had the leftover remnants of Bonus poker on it, so that you get 400 for aces and 200 for the little quads.  It was set at 25 cents and 1 dollar. But you can also find a lot of AWFUL crappola paytables so look look look....but the general rule is the HIGHER the Denom, the better the paytables at these two Tribal tributes to greed.  As for actual types of games, they have them all spread out throughout the premises, but Foxwoods is bigger so it tends to have more of everything.  Also, Mohegan tends to be VERY DARK inside so take that into account if either of you has eyesight or migraine issues. The food is above average for casinos in BOTH places....this is New England afterall, home of the pickiest most critical diners in the country.....food is of utmost importance, but expect to pay a lot too even if you plan on being comped (by that I mean it will take more COMPS in general to get "comped food" if that makes any sense....) Good luck nonetheless and please post pics of anything good u hit.

Luck Larry & Sweet C me and my wife go to Foxwoods, used to go to Mohegan but have not been there in over 4 years, will let you know Mohegan has special i think is still going on if you sign up for a reward card for the first time they will give you $50 in slot play/VP play or table play which i think you can use right away so that might be worth checking out there. Both casinos have weak (lol) VP paytables,  at Foxwoods in the Great Cedar casino they have DDB 8/5 single line I play with progressive RF,also 9/5TDB they do have muti hand but I dont play so dont know much on those, right next to these machines they have nickel machine wife used to play but they are not multi hand, she now needs to play .25 more gamble for her (lol) If you want to walk down to MGM in same building somewhat take like ten minutes to get there, they have some progressive DDB .25 machines for RF and also for four aces, four 2,3,4 these are also progressive for these on top of RF i think 6 or 8 machine they are the out side machines, they also have nickel machine near by but not sure on multi hand or pay tables on those. I will let you know you will get exsercies walking around inside Foxwoods 2nd biggest casino in the world. P.S Mohegan sun does not give reward point on VP to my knowlegde, At Foxwoods i think around $300+ to get one reward point on VP, not good. Well good luck to both you. Sam

DaBurglar,
Thanks for the great advice especially re: the driving conditions. Reminds me of a casino in Oregon that we drove to through the woods, over the hills and streams for miles with not a street light, street sign or house.

We've anticipated that it would take half a day to move across the casino.
What is the phone service like inside the casino? If not good Sweet C and I may have to stay within yelling distance..

Thanks for the update on the machines. We're not too worried about comps since this is probably a one time visit. We also anticipate it being really crowded since it will be weekend nights. Thanks for the heads up on the room situation and the player's card promo.

We should have some great stories.

Sam,
Thanks for the update and information. This may end up being just one of those "life's experiences" in addition to adding the player's card to our collection and checking off another "Casino Bucket List" casino.

What is the phone service like inside the casinos? Parking?

Of course Sweet C suggested we could wear really tall hats with a sign "Here I am honey!"   Just what New Englander's want is a bunch of goofy Texans - our money yes, us .....

Larry, LoL on the hats, i grew up on farm up hear but i understand.  Years(more than five) ago we used to take are cell phones inside and could call each other with no problem, now when we gamble in casinos we are within 30 feet of each other so we dont bring cell phones in anymore. But your going to be in casinos you dont know (Foxwoods)so bring them in with you place is big could get lost. They do have intercomes if you get lost tho. can call your name over it. We always park in parking garages(Free) which i think are 5 story high there is one on each end Great cedar casino and MGM casino. I heard people/gamblers that have come from Las vegas and gone to Foxwoods have been lost in there for years LOL! LOL!  Still have not found them!! LOL!  I call where Foxwoods as in the country there small farms all around it. I like it. Good luck on your adventure. Sam

Sam,
Thanks for the information. Those Vegas tourist " aren't lost, just a bit bewildered". The ones missing in Vegas are visiting the desert.

One of our biggest fears is that we will drive across Connecticut and miss the casinos before we realize it. Our last trip to New England we almost crossed two states without realizing it.

Keep in mind it takes us 14 + hours to drive the 879 miles on I-10 across Texas. Heck Sweet C drives 56 miles across Houston to her hair dresser - of course part of that is on I-10 where there are 16 lanes of traffic.

LOL!LOL! Larry Bewildered Yes! Desert Yes!  I driven there so many times, i think I 395 and i get off at exit 85 in Conn.it is almost 10 miles from highway, If your comming up on the coast I95 not sure what exit. When we go it is like 160plus miles, but more like we use ok that store get off at this exit or theres a factory 2 more exit before go right, and so on &and so on ect. ect. I can see where you might miss are states compared to 16lanes of traffic, that is are whole state of NH. (lol) If you have GPS might help? I have found tho that GPS seems make drive the long way some places, but will get you there sooner or later.Good luck Sam
