Seeded RNG in contests

Post by deltaduke »

Why do you seed the RNG in your contests with occurances that are far outside the realm of statistical probabilities.  Last week's double STP was especially bad.  I am glad I did not get that dealt royal with 10 and 10.  I would have wished I bought lottery tickets if I was that lucky.  Probably better odds in the lottery than that result.  I personally find the contests no fun at all when I get a super high score that I would love to get in a casino and it would not even make the first 100 in the contest. If these are actual RNG results, then I seriously doubt the integrity of your generator.

Last week's double STP was especially bad.  I am glad I did not get that dealt royal with 10 and 10.  I would have wished I bought lottery tickets if I was that lucky.  Probably better odds in the lottery than that result.

Odds of getting a dealt Royal with 20X multiplier is a lot easier than winning Powerball. This is because of a rule that most players are never aware of because very few people read rules screens. If you get a dealt Royal (1 in 649,740) and you receive any deal multiplier (1 in 15), the game automatically awards you a 20X multiplier.

This rule was implemented because it is illegal in many states with casinos to have a "jackpot" (i.e. top prize award) with odds greater than 50 million to 1. So this rule makes the chances of getting a Royal with 20X roughly: (1/649740)*(1/15) = 1 in 9,746,100.

According to:
http://www.videopoker.com/contests/results/?id=786

There were 22,494 sessions of 100 deals played that day, or a total of 2,249,400 deals.

The probability of seeing a dealt Royal that day:
1 - (9746099/9746100)^2249400 = 0.2061 = 20.61%

Personally, I think 20% is well within the "realm of statistical probabilities".

Unfortunately, with so many people participating in the daily contests, dealt Royals or dealt AWAK in Triple Double Bonus are a must. In April, I got AWAK dealt in an STP contest, but I didn't win since I had no multiplier...lol

Correct. the 20x is much more likely than you would expect for the reasons stated above. We see them in the 20x Double STP contests about as often as you should expect, which suggests the RNG is working just fine.I can understand frustration about a good score not even making the top 100 or so. But that's just the nature of these contests with so many players. In the last Double Super Times contest there were 22,494 sessions played. Of course, there can only be 100 "top 100" scores. So that means there are a whole bunch of great scores that aren't on that level and making the leaderboard of the visible top 10 out of 22,494 is always quite an achievement.
