I personally haven't been to South Point, but looking at their selection on VPFree, it looks pretty good. I would like to eventually try the place out because it has one of the best Double STP machines in the country. Also I think double points days gives 0.6% back in cash from what I have read online? Unsure if it's cash or comps though.

The couple I met at Mohegan said it was cash back which is great if it continues. Thanks for the additional info on South Point.

Nice.  I'll bet you would have been down a bunch if you hadn't played single quarters for the first two hours.  The trick is to only play max coins when a Royal hits.  Now, if I could figure that out... you know the rest.

OK guys and gals. Let's see if I figured this correctly. Using round numbers, if I could find a 9/6 quarter machine that paid the correct  800 for one on JOB, and played about 40,000 hands without a Royal of one coin quarters, I would lose about $240. If I could find a machine like that, I think I could force myself to play 1 coin quarters for 40,000 hands or so, then play 2 coin quarters for another 20,000 hands hoping for the Royal. If I still didn't get the Royal after 60,000 hands roughly, I would only be down $ 480- total because I think 9/6 JOB without a Royal returns about 97.6%. In the real world though, unless there is one of those machines off strip or somewhere, I won't be able to find a machine like that in my area. There was only 1 at Mohegan Sun, but they took it out about 2 years ago. Could be because I hit several Royals on it with anywhere between 1 and 3 coins in and got paid the 800 for 1 and earned points and comps as well. Whenever I got up and left that machine, it only stayed empty for 5 seconds. If only the casinos would put in these machines and use their theory of keeping you there and playing as long as possible, they would have much bigger crowds I think. I think they forget that if you go, you bring other people with you quite often that play all kinds of stuff and make mistakes in playing all over the place. They also in my opinion fail to factor in fatigue, sticky buttons, playing wrong on a hunch, etc. etc, etc. What I can't figure out is why take out these type of machines, and let the craps players (like I used to be) have up to 10 times free odds behind the line.

I guess it's because the casinos think everyone has read Bob Dancer's book 20 times and can play 9/6 Jacks perfectly for a 1,000 hours at a time. 
 
Actually, Bob addresses this in his book.  He says that every machine has to make a minimum profit in order to pay the rent.  He says smaller denomination players don't lose enough money to make the machines profitable.  Outside of Vegas, I think it's because there isn't enough competition and most players will play no matter what the pay back.  Vegas is a very cut throat competitive market.  With the number of new casinos being planned  across the country, we may get there someday. 
 
To give you some idea of how good the Indian Tribes have it in Tampa Florida, 9/6 Jacks in only available in minimum $2 denominations and they lock out the coin key so you have to play max coins. There's no cash back, you have to pay for drinks and their comps can only be used for food, tee shirts and overpriced hotel rooms.  I have nothing against the tribes, but setting the minimum bet at $10 a hand is ridiculous.  The reason they do it is because they can (at least for the moment).

Wow! I had no idea the Indians had it that good in Florida. If you come back up north to Mohegan before October, at least I could get you in the lounge as a guest. In October, they are changing the entire tier structure and nobody is talking about the specifics. That is not a good sign, but will have to wait and see. Now I have to work a little more on my discipline to play one coin quarters  more often. Take care and good luck and health to all.

I'm going to Cherokee in a few weeks myself.  The last time I was there they had 9/5 quarter DDB, which is a little better than we have in Florida.
