I agree that the Borgata is a nicer property -- but the Taj now has a better steakhouse, and they give me a lot more comp at my level of play than I get at Borgata or any Harrah's property.

My experience, especially having 2 longtime friends as Titanium players at Borgata, is that unless you're Titanium, they really don't care about you much at all. Rooms are OK, the Water Club is very nice but the original Borgata tower is definitely shopworn and in need of improvement.   And the Borgata is continually overrun with twentysomethings from North Jersey/New York who are drunk and annoying.

The Borgata remodel all the rooms in the original tower last year.  Glad to hear that the new steakhouse ( Roberts ) at the Taj is good. I have always enjoyed Dynasty restaurant and the Rim Noodle bar.

Forget Roberts.....right next door is the old tried and true Gallaghers Steakhouse in Resorts, and if you bother looking, you will see that the prices at Gallaghers are SIGNIFICANTLY lower than Roberts (51 dollars versus 38 dollars for the largest filet mignon cut, and about the same difference for all the other popular cuts.)    Side dishes are also lower at gallaghers by about 20% but are actually LARGER in portion size. That's price, but what about Quality?   Gallaghers wins this one too....by a long shot.   I have only eaten Roberts four times in two years but I have been to Gallaghers dozens of times in that same period so certainly I am biased from a frequency standpoint....but I am a equal opportunity diner.   IF Roberts was truly comparable in the QUality department I might put up with the prices more often than only four times in 2 years.     Note:  I am NOT SAYING ROBERTS is unappealing;   I think Roberts has very good food.....It just doesnt approach Gallaghers Taste.    What's more, when you factor in galaghers has been around since 1927, "invented" the New York Strip, and their Old World Decor and pictures takes you back to a time when life was truly good, it makes for a awesome dining experience.     Roberts decor at the Taj is nice but it smacks of typical Trump Snooty Vapidness and hollow affectation.    I do not like the message that only "rich people" are entitled to eat so good, and that may be one of the reasons they are so overpriced. As for other AC steakhouses, Harrah's is disappointing, Vic & Anthony at the Golden Nugget suffers from the same Overpriced affliction as Roberts but their quality justifies the prices a little better than Roberts but still doesnt approach Gallaghers level;   Morton's at Caesars is almost as good as Gallaghers, and their prices, while high, offer some loopholes without sacrificing quality, like their Prix Fixe Menu(s) and their Happy hour Bar menu options (try Mortons $7 Filet Mignon mini sandwiches or the 3 mini burger/sliders for 7 bucks.....some of the best values in town when paired with happy hour drinks and the parmesan truffle fries;  you get a awesome dinner for less than 20 bucks at Mortons!) The Palms in the Tropicana is truly in a class by itself, so you cannot really compare it to any of the other AC steak joints.   its super expensive but actually almost justified in that its food rivals Gallaghers but its Portions actually exceed in some cases.    And their Happy hour menu options top Morton's awesome menu.   Of course, if you want to eat outside of the casinos in AC, you have goold ol' Ruth Chris on Atlantic Avenue in Front of Caesars/Ballys,  and Longhorn right next door.   While Longhorn is clearly a cheaper lower quality option, a couple of its cuts, like its Ribeye, actually are just as good as most of the casino steakhouses, and at about half the price.   Keep that in mind on those Saturday nights in AC when its too late to get a reservation at any of the casino steakhouses.

Roberts' filet is one of the best steaks I've ever had. Normally I'm a ribeye guy, but their filet is absolutely phenomenal and actually considerably better than their ribeye or NY Strip.

Gallagher's is good, so is Morton's, but when the Taj runs 10X comp dollar days for Signature players, I can easily accumulate enough comps in one trip for many meals at Roberts' so I don't really care all that much about the price. And I'm not going to pay to go to Gallagher's when I don't play at Resorts, anyway, and can eat at Roberts' for comps.

The only issue I ever have at Roberts' is, when they get really slammed (i.e. Friday and Saturday nights) their service quality can drop off, especially with particular servers.   But you can have that anywhere.

Thanks for the info. I usually do gourmet dinners at where I have the Comps . But sometimes if they run a promotion.  I'am willing to try it. I had a Tomahawk steak at the Showboat several years ago. That was soooooo GOOD.  The restaurant I think was called Ribs & Chops

well obviously, yes, if a person has comps accumulated at one particular place, your choice is pretty much a default for wherever the meal is "FREE".....two of the four time i ate at roberts were after one of those "COMP Multiplier festivals of Greed" they love to promote towards the end of each fiscal quarter!   The ONLY, and I mean ONLY things I ever spend comp dollars on are food and rooms/room related crap.......I never use comps for any of the overpriced merchandise or gifts in your typical casino retail outlet, its such a waste.   Likewise with converting comp dollars into free play at the usual 2 to 1 rate, UNLESS the casino is offering the rare chance to convert comp dollars at a 1 to 1 rate, then i MIGHT go for free play if I have more than 50 bucks available. It is all about "utility".....I derive more utility in casinos from free food and rooms than from anything else available, even shows and entertainment.   Truth be told, even with certain Vegas institutional shows like Cirque Soleil or Celine or Lance "whats-his-name" at the Monte Carlo, I have always been able to find equal or better entertainment/shows/concerts in NON-casino locales at equal or lesser price.   And that includes any so-called "comp show or tickets" because, afterall, we all know those comp tickets really are nor ever were "free" lol      I lived in Los Angeles for 12 years during which time I went to Vegas a couple times a month (or more).....the nightlife entertainment in LA back then (1992 thru 2004) blew away even the best of Vegas shows back then so I never took advantage of any comped shows or tix, I just wanted to gamble which was the only thing Vegas truly offered that L.A. did not have.   Even food....as good as Vegas dining is today in 2013, it still, when you get down to it, cannot compare with the authentic cuisine and specialties and landmark restaurants in your typical Big American City like NYC or Boston or Chicago or L.A. No Vegas restaurant ever served up better seafood than I get in Boston;  no Vegas restaurant ever served up better itialian food than I have had all over NYC (inlcuding Pizza) and even in Boston's north end;   Chicago has better steak, chops, ribs, etc than Vegas;   Memphis (and Kansas City) has the best BBQ....u get the point. Its the gambling that is the draw, but while we are there it is nice to have food that comes "close" to the original real deals.....

I ate @ Mortons this week on my way back from the NCL cruise. The filet was wonderful, and the portion size of the salads, deserts and side items is HUGE. It is pricey, though.

But back to the original topic - AC VP. On both sides of my cruise, spent a couple days in AC, staying @ Caesars, returning home today. I played there and over @ Harrahs. Got Zip and Pip during both stays. A lot of trips, but few quads, and no monster hands. The 9/7 $1 TDB DoublePay is still there, but I couldn't make it pay me.

In the Revel thread you comment that other AC casinos don't offer promotions of value... yet, a 5/7/10X comp dollar multiplier (where even a piker who'd only earn $20 in comp in a visit would get enough at 5X to make a decent dent in a gourmet meal) you deride as a "festival of Greed"?

I don't think there's many better promotions in the City, especially not on a regular basis -- the Taj has 3-4 of these days every month, always on a weekday, and the past few months have been running a 5X comp dollar Friday once a month, too.

Billyjoe you have to look at from the machines point of view. When it encounters a player it doesn't see very often it assumes that you are just another patron that spills coffee on it, slaps it's buttons, beats on it's glass and stuffs it's slot full of paper. Once it gets to know you, it will appreciates the way you clean it with a refreshing wet nap, feed it a nice crisp bill and  carefully push the butons. Then and only then will it reward you in kind.
