The RNG

Post by kjmema »

If all VP games uses the RNG to determine play than how do the games on
this site work?  Are these a set program or do they also utalize
an RNG? Does a CD such as the Bob Dancer program use an RNG and if so
how since it's loaded from a CD?   I don't trust that the casinos
don't use set programs.  It seems that on a jacks or better you
get a lot more Aces than on a bonus game where the aces pay
400-2000.   Also when 2 pr. pays 10 you get fewer by far than
on a bonus machine where they pay 5.    Any thoughts on this?

For a "licensed" machine in a casino (I forget what they are caleld) I would think it would have to be truly random. Thats' what the RNG is for (constant shuffle or something)And for games on a CD or a web site the random could be done easy using the random number of the programming language it's in (flash, java, whatever).  I'm pretty sure all programmnig languages have these.  I think there are some good and bad random number generators (some have patterns) and I do not know if the ones used on web sites or programming languages are as good as the ones in casinos and probably a very different system but still random. I assume that in casions all these machines are "certified" in some way to ensure that it's random.  My guess is that the added likelyhood of aces you are talking about is not an actual phenomenon in casinos that takes place but something that you have observed and probably noticed in your own play.  I would guess (only a guess) that some people have made the opposite observations based on limited play since in a random sample a given user is likely to see certain apparetent tendencies that are really not there given the "big picture." But those "streaks" and "good luck" etc on games is what hooks us, isn't it? Did I anser any questions or only confuse more? I think as long as a game is "certified' in a casino it should be trustworthy as real random, as much as a deck of cards from a dealer. If not the whole thing would fall apart I would think.  I am no expert on regulation though but I know it is something casinos are very careful about at least from what I have seen. Everyone knows the odds are stacked in favor of the house any way so I wouldn't say the machnies are cheating too since that would be foolish to do.

I believe Eduardo's reply is right on target. Most states have gambling regulations that you can find through the state's website. In many cases the testing requirements are specified as well. If anyone doubts the honesty of their local casino I would urge them to check out their states regulations.
For computer simulators, like winpoker, FVP, etc., they use either an internal RNG or use the one provided by the operating system. Since the goal of these programs is to teach proper play, for the most part, it is not necessary that the RNG be as random and foolproof as a VP machine.
Note: Their are devices called VLTs (Video Lottery Terminals) that look like VP machines. The results of these machines are NOT random based on the paytable.

Hi is anyone  playing the old j,s or better game by IGT or Spielo, if you have noticed the repitition of certain combinations, such as {Qs and 3s} {4s & 7s} {6s & 9s} deuces come with another pair 90% of the time or more.  the double up feature there are cards that you may never beat like the 5s.  On the game wild 2s by Spielo there is a pattern that I have spotted in the double down section, here again you will almost never beat the  5s , If you beat a 3 do not go again the deuces follow the 3. I play at Wheeling WV. and they still have some old machines, If you can relate to what I have said call me @ 1-740-484-4246 as I have found another quark in the double down and we may be able to help each others %

West Virginia allows the use of VLTs instead of standard class III Video Poker machines. Are these the machine you are referring to? You should be aware that the results on VLTs are not complelely determined by an RNG.
