Caesar's Windsor 9/30 to 10/04 Trip Report

Post by chattycattty »

Having never been to Windsor before, we had no idea what to expect  when we decided to take our 7-Star trip here. It ended up being a very enjoyable trip even though there were no hand pays or monster hands to remember Windsor by.  With no free play to work with, we ended up the trip less than $500 in the hole.  Part of our success or lack of success, depending on how you look at it, was because we gambled a lot less than we normally do.

Let me start by saying all of the employees at Caesar's Windsor that we dealt with were first class.  They were a breath of fresh air compared to Caesar personnel we have dealt with in Vegas or Atlantic City for instance.  We really enjoyed their diamond lounge.  In addition to a buffet similar but not quite as elaborate as the DL's at Atlantic City, they had a separate menu that 7 star members could order off of.

All the meals we had at their restaurants were terrific.  We had breakfast each morning at the Artist's Café.  One night we had steak and lobster at their steakhouse ( Nero's). We also tried their buffet one night.  Although it was not Caesar's Bachannal, it was really quite good.  All the food was reasonably priced.  We only used about $200 of our $500 7 Star allowance on food.  We used the rest of it at the gift shop.   My wife found a purse she could not live without.  I found a wallet that, even though I have been needing a new one for a while, would not have been willing to pay $42 for.  It was use it or lose it so we made sure we spent all of it.

One of the nice surprises of our trip was our airfare.  On a 7 star trip, CET allows $1200 for  airfare.   My wife worked with our host at Windsor and we were able to get 1st class roundtrip airfare  from where we live for just over $1200.  They even paid the difference.  This really added a lot of extra relaxation and value to our trip.

Upon arrival at Detroit we were met by a driver who helped us across the border to Caesar's Windsor.  It wasn't a limo stocked with alcohol  like we get when we go to Tahoe, but it was a comfortable and short ride and the trip across the Canadian border was uneventful.  After stopping by the duty free store to purchase beer and alcohol we checked into our room.

Another pleasant surprise.  They gave us an executive suite in the Augustus tower.  It was on the 25th floor with a beautiful view across the Detroit River.  Our room was a little over 2000 sq. ft.  It had a fireplace, wet bar,  2 bathrooms with separate oversized shower and Jacuzzi tub.  The bedding and pillows were very comfortable.  Everything about our room met or exceeded our expectations.  After unpacking we headed to the casino.

Although the Casino was massive and impressive in a lot of ways we were disappointed.  If you like table games or penny machines, Caesar's Windsor would be a perfect fit.   It did not have the selection of  $1 and $5 machines that my wife likes to play.  For me, even though they do have a multitude of video poker machines, they did not have any with good pay tables.  The best JOB I could find was 8/5.  I could find no BP anywhere.  The best DDB I could find was 9/5.  We normally gamble 6 to 8 hours per day on a trip.  Because they lacked the type of machines we really get excited about playing, we did not play nearly as much as we normally would.

We did do a lot of walking.  Windsor is a great place is you like to walk.  We did a tour of the Canadian Club facility.  We watched several movies.  For us this was more like a vacation than a gambling trip. The trip went by fast.  The last night we saw Lionel Richie in concert.  What an amazing entertainer!

What an interesting trip report and fun to see Windsor from another perspective! Sounds like a great room. A lot can happen on a trip like yours and all sounds positive for you! You could have lost a lot more! I tried to warn you about those pay tables! I hoped you would find something good among all their new machines. I assume that beautiful 5K seat auditorium was sold out for Lionel Richie. Their world class concerts/entertainers are their best feature, IMHO, and we enjoy many comped events. I was detained for an hour at the border on my last trip. Three US border guards thoroughly searched my car. I had to wait for my turn to be interrogated inside their bldg. They claimed it was a computer random search. Fortunately, they failed to find whatever they were seeking! How I wish they would profile and seek out the criminals, drug dealers, smugglers and terrorists!

The Lionel Richie concert was sold out.  He played non-stop for over 2 hours with the crowd on its feet most of the time.  We had excellent seats.  We were not on the floor, but we were in the front row middle section so we were elevated just enough to see above all of the heads you normally have to contend with when seated in the floor section.

We did not have any problems either way at the border.  They asked a few more questions coming into Canada than they did coming back into Detroit.  Did you get searched on your way over or on your way back?

With one exception, the problems have occurred with returning to the US. Going over to Canada has been smooth! It's only on the return trip to the US that the US border guards get involved. We believe they cause delays to help save their jobs. I was not physically searched and did not have to empty my purse, yet. I am guessing that their questions or our answers are not usually very important but rather looking for accents and our grasp of English. Perhaps they would press harder if we were not fluent in English. Many silly questions "When did you graduate HS?" "Whose car?" "WHY....", "Where..." "How long....? "Did you win?" "How much?" "Where do you work?" "Is someone else in the car with you? (DUH) "Is there someone in the back seat?" (meaning under my jacket!!!) "Give me your keys", "roll down the back windows", "Open the hatch back". "Are you alone?" I cannot believe that I made NINE trips across that border with my d in laws stuff. Our son was denied entrance with her stuff in his car and even showed them their marriage license. She is from another country and had been working in Canada. I saved her BIG black computer chair on the black car upholstery under my hooded black jacket for the last trip and still no problem. My son was able to drive her newish car across w no delays. Nor was there a problem returning with the big Dirt Devil box that was a casino gift. It's insane and you never know when you might get detained or fined.

OH faygo, betcha you miss those border guards! We assume they are trained to detect unusual body language, nervousness, lack of eye contact, or anything that arouses their suspicions. Just answer as briefly and truthfully as possible when questioned and do not try to amuse them with funny quips and humaness. Most are beautiful and just trying to do their job. Others get carried away w power! Stay in your car unless told otherwise!

FYI, Windsor has one of the best paying games in the entire CET empire. 99.95% Pick 'em. However, it only accrues tier credits at 1/8th of the normal rate.

I suspect that you are still on their list for the fruit incident, MM.
