Re: New Daily Contest Format - Survey results

Post by chattycattty »

Well thank you Webman for freeing up lots of time for me. I like lots of games to choose from because I bore fast and when one game isn't working I try others. Although it would be fun to win, I mostly play for fun, with the .0001% chance of winning. I've played the daily the last few days, now that TDB isn't the only game, but I'm not having fun. If the site earns money by our playing, which seems to be the case, you're now going to lose money on me because I'm done with the daily contest. And when my membership is up next September right I'm not planning on re-upping. (Taking away Pick-a-Par started my discontent with this sight btw.)

You may want to reconsider because it rally is a great website.  I do not like the single game format and have been one of the loudest critics.  I still think it was a stupid, boneheaded decision but not worth discontinuing my gold membership.

It actually , for me, turned out to be a blessing in disguise.  Now that I am not playing the daily contests anymore, I am using that time to play my favorite games and can switch back and forth like I do when I am at the casino.  Additionally I like using the training mode.  It is fun to play 100 hand sessions and try to get all hundred hands without making a mistake.  My only criticism of the training mode is that when you do make a mistake It does reflect the magnitude of the mistake.

Hang in there.  Just take advantage of the many good things that are offered by this website.  At less that the cost of a tank of gas for a years membership its a pretty good value.  Those of you who are currently participating for free,  I suggest you at least try it for 1 year and see if you don't find enough benefit to justify the extra cost.  I played for free on this site for years and earlier this year decided to give it a try.  Its well worth the cost despite this silly, boneheaded new daily contest experiment we are going through.  I will be surprised if it lasts more than a couple months.

I like the format the way it is now. It's not always in my comfort zone but that's okay. What I would like to see is when you post the upcoming games for the daily contest, if you also included the game (TDB, DDB, Dueces, etc) we would be playing. I could use some training time the day before to refresh my strategy.

That makes sense. We'll try to get the full Daily Contest schedule, including game family, up at the start of each month beginning in November. That will both help you prepare and also make decisions about which games you want to use your bonus entries on in advance.

Several posters have said they will give up their gold membership on account of the change in the daily contest format. I am confused in that everyone, gold/non-gold, can participate in the daily contests with an equal chance of winning. The reason to become gold is for extra options such as training mode, chat, no ads, etc.

Incidentally, I am sure videopoker.com receives significant revenue from ads and that part of the cost of gold membership offsets a lower amount that can be charged due to a smaller potential audience.

This is a great site and all of us gold/non-gold benefit from its existence.

Today's game was a real snooze fest, only way to win is if you are dealt 4 A's, or am I missing something? I agree, with the tell us what game is going to be played so we know if we even want to waste time logging in or not. Canceled my Gold today as there are better sites to play on.

I don't really care either way. I've played since before the daily contests began and I'll probably continue to play even if it was made to be straight JOB every day, single line, 5000 hands, (PLEASE don't take that as a suggestion...) I think its great to have the option to play, no matter how it is formatted.

I also think the winners challenge was a fantastic idea. However, it takes a HUGE commitment in time to participate. My guess is the time aspect is why the participation rate was relatively low. I don't know if there is a solution, other than reducing the time period, but since it seems to be an integral part of the problem it should probably be considered as well.

Edited to add, I'll second the suggestion that bonus or double bonus deuces be used whenever possible. I find it to be far more interesting due to the increased chances for larger hands.

What I don't understand is why the player EVER had a choice in format for the daily tournament.

No, I do not like every game.

No, I do not like every format.

That is irrelevant.

IT IS A TOURNAMENT!!!!!!!!

I can not think of ANY tournament for ANY game, sport, or competition, that has rules that allows for individual participants to make up their own rules as they go along.

The idea of ANY tournament is to have every player subject to the same set of rules.

Why is this an issue???
