seriously, I dont just vent on this forum about what I hate about AC.....I tell ANYONE who will listen in the casinos; dealers, slot people, management, EVERYONE!  I have written and called the Atlantic city Press (newspaper) about my experiences and observations....I have told the Nj gaming authority what the problems are, in my opionion. I know what I am talking about....things do not have to be this way, and if enough people actually spoke up intelligently about the issues and problems in AC, things might improve. As I have stated before, I have stopped going to Vegas the last several years because flying for me has become one huge pain in the arse.....I still plan on going to Vegas sometime soon, but if I want to gamble more than once a year, AC is my only realistic option....I could go to foxwoods/mohegan, but I hate the isolated nature of those places,  I like to go for 5-7 days at a time, like a minivacation, so AC offers that. If you visit AC regularly then you know and understand what I am saying about the place.....if they truly wish to survive and actually prosper once again, AC must change and fix whats wrong with it.....

I think, but I am not sure, that the reason many of the AC casinos have large portions of their floor blocked off or removed, is that they have to maintain a certain ratio of hotel rooms to casino square footage or machines -- and many of them are taking floors of rooms out of commission to save costs, and therefore have to downsize their casino floors accordingly.   Note that the Taj has take out huge swaths of casino floor -- they took out all those machines by the bus terminal, all the floor space on the elevated area along the Boardwalk behind the Sultan's Palace (it was the tournament area for a while, but now it's just empty space, and if you look through the glass from the boardwalk side, there's just storage in there) and so forth. The Plaza took out that room that was over the Rainforest Cafe, and also took a lot of machines off that bridge area... That's my guess as to what's going on.

I am not sure about New Jersey, but in Nevada, and most other states, a casino is licensed for a certain maximum number of machines. That is why, for example, if they want to add a new slot machine, they need to remove something (usually a VP machine).
