Horseshoe Casino, Cleveland, Ohio

Post by WVRadar »

I’m thinking about visiting the Horseshoe Casino in Cleveland, Ohio.  Their website states that they have nearly 200 Video Poker machines.  This website lists 31 of them.  Anyone visited there, have any more information on any added machines?  Also, how about your experience there, good or bad.

I stopped in there one night this past summer and they do have alot of video poker machines in various denominations. I couldn't really make a study of it because the machines were scattered all over the casino and the place was REALLY crowded. There was alot going on downtown Cincy that night and that may have had something to do with the crowds. The place is very nice inside, the buffet was excellent, best buffet prime rib that I've had in a while and they have a good overall selection of food. One bonus, atleast for me, was that the place is smokefree so it's a bit of a nice change other than Hollywood in Lawrenceburg, IN across the river. Bottom line is that the 200 machines number is probably accurate and they have slot machines up the ying yang. They have several other restaurants other than thet buffet including one of those chain hamburger joints. I may stop down there again if I go to Hollywood before the end of the year. Good luck.

Hey Ted, WvRadar. Ted he was asking about the Horseshoe in Cleve. They are probably both about the same, but I live 50 miles from the one in Cleveland and 60 to the Hollywood in Toledo. I don't like the Horseshoe that much cause the casino is in an old department store and you know about the old line you can put lipstick on a pig. You have to park in a parking garage and walk along the street (and pay to park if you don't have players club card with a certain amount of play) It's smells like an old bathroom when you first walk in and just seems like a place to gamble if that's all you are looking for, not much of a Vegas type feel. I haven't eaten there, but there are many vp machines, pay tables about average, nothing outstanding and I've never won more than $200 and that was on a dollar slot. The traffic is terrible as the main bridge into the city is closed now for at least a year. The main sports venues are on same couple of blocks and if you come on a game day the parking is very sparse and expensive. I like the Hollywood in Toledo a lot better, very easy to get to nice parking garage, lots of vp, open and airly feel, more Vegas like. Hit or miss buffet. Same with vp, my hub has hit a couple of royals there, we are just quarter players, but I usually manage to hit some 4oaks. All in all much better gaming experience. There aret hotels at either one, just casinos. What part of WV are you from Radar, my husband and I are both from there. Hi Ted!   kati    ps there have been some people mugged at night at the Horseshoe going to the parking garage down the street, not a great area, they are building a skyway, but wont be done for a couple years

Oops, my bad on not catching WV was looking for info on Cleveland and not Cincy. Thanks kati for picking up my slack and I owe you a return favor. Well I hope the info I gave on Cincy may be of some value anyway. For what its worth, the Cincy casino is only about 6 months old so that lends to some of me smiling favorably upon it.

Speaking of muggings in the parking lots, that was happening several times a month in Joliet, IL when Harrah's first opened. People who were leaving the casino with winnings were being spotted in the casino and then followed into the parking tower and getting mugged. A friend of mine was victimized this way and he nearly died from a knife wound. Bottom line here kiddies is for you to always be aware of your surroundings and you ladies be especially careful and don't feel bashful about asking for an escort from the casino to your vehicle.

katipug, thanks for the info.  Looks like the casinos in Cleveland and Cincinnati are vastly different.  I'm from the northern panhandle of West Virginia, small place called Follansbee.  Where are you and your husband from? Thanks for the info on Toledo.  I was thinking of visiting there next summer, when the Mud Hens play the Indianapolis Indians (I'm a big Pittsburgh Pirates fan).

The walkway from the parking deck to the casino is not going to take years, it is already structurally complete as of two weeks ago when I was in downtown and saw it myself. I would expect it to be completed quickly.

Thanks Jaycevs for the info, it's still a real bear to get to the casino though with all the road construction, especially if you are coming from out of town and not familiar with all the re-routing going on. And to WVRadar, we are both from Charleston, though my husband was raised in a little town called Gassaway. We now live 7 miles from Cedar Point in Ohio. I see you live close to the Mountaineer, I've never been there, how's the VP? Have you ever been to the Presque Isle in Erie PA? I like it, or the Seneca Allegheny in Salamaca NY? And to Tedlark, hmmm I'm sure I will figure out a way to collect, lol. kati    ps welcome to forum Jaycevs!

I see you live close to the Mountaineer, I've never been there, how's the VP? Have you ever been to the Presque Isle in Erie PA? I like it, or the Seneca Allegheny in Salamaca NY?I’ve heard of Gassaway though I’ve never been there.  Visited Charleston quite a few times, the Mardi Gras Casino in Cross Lanes is probably the nicest one in the state.  Mountaineer was the first casino I ever played slots in.  My wife and I used to visit the track to bet on the horses about once a year then finally tried the slots out: been hooked ever since, probably haven’t seen a horse race for over ten years.  Mountaineer has gone downhill in recent years, we usually visit the Meadows in Washington, PA when we feel like gambling.  As far as Video Poker, the games in West Virginia are terrible.  When the state legislature passed gambling in the state, they set the maximum payout on any machine to 95%.  This makes for a poor selection of games.  The ones at the Meadows are much better. Our daughter worked at Cedar Point Amusement Park for a couple of years back in the early 80‘s.  Never been to Presque Isle (mainly because it’s run by the same company that owns Mountaineer).  We really liked the Seneca Allegheny.  Used to go there pretty often, but haven’t been there for a while.  They had the best comps for low roller gamblers like my wife and I: free beer at the bar as long as you were playing Video Poker!!!
