Well, thank you for asking. It is less of a strategy, but more of an approach to managing your gaming bankroll.
While many on this Forum correctly point out, playing VP is a continuous process, spanning sessions, gaming trips, and years. It is also driven by the mathmatics of the paytables over a long stretch of time, assuming the machines are fairly set up.
I recognize that, but for me, living in Florida, I need to take gaming trips to regular casino locations in order to play. I also recognize that I choose to play mostly in casinos that are in either the Harrahs/Caesars Group or the MGM fold, since I am 7Star and NOIR respectively, and they have casinos nationally, not just in Vegas. I would rather invest my gaming budget in locations where I have status, that status is portable, and I can recieve comps for my play. This means that the VP paytables are not always the most player friendly. And most importantly, I want to enjoy myself, and not exhaust my gaming funds on the first day of a 5 day trip.
I use a "Win Stop / Loss Stop" approach. I break my play up into sessions, based on whatever else I have planned during a trip (golf, spa, show). I will allocate a certain amount of my gaming funds to a particular session. I will then play that session until (A) I lose my allocation, (B) I win my session target amount, or (C) my session time is over.
Having played VP for many years, I feel that I can regognize when I am having a good, profitable session. I want to retain some of that profit for future sessions. Based on the amount of money that I allocate for a given session, I set a "Win Stop" point. If I am lucky enough to reach it, I stop playing, and go do something else (the pool, eat, take a nap). The same goes for the "Loss Stop" point. If I lose my session allocation, I stop playing VP, and wait for my next VP session. At times, if the VP is really stale, I may stop VP a little earlier, and switch to table games, which I find I can play for longer durations with a limited bankroll.
This approach, for me, offers several benefits. I know I will have gaming funds to play with on my last trip day. Worse case, I only can lose the amount of money I chose to put at risk for that gaming trip. And, most importantly, I have FUN on my trip, regardless of the gaming outcome.
