Re: Cleopatra Keno Contest

Post by Vman96 »

Finished last night winning 6 out of 10 sessions with a high of 1182 and a low of 520.  If you add the scores together I was within 50 points of breaking even if I was at a casino.  Does anyone know at CET properties if Keno play accumulates tier credits at $5 per credit like regular slots or at $10 per credit like VP?

like VP I think, but the paytables should make them count like slots.

If no one answers this first, I'll try in tunica this weekend and double check.

I believe you are correct, Vman - $5 coin in per Tier Credit. Although I do not play Keno, CET defines their increase to $10 (or beyond) for VP as "Games that involve an element of skill" . No offense to any Keno players out there, but I do not believe Keno fits that description..

Keno is an intriguing game. I had an Uncle who played nothing but keno at the casino. Not the machine type but the old fashioned type. There are a lot of people who are just as passionate about Keno as most of us are about video poker. My experiment over the next several days is to try to find out why.

I am getting better at it but have only cracked 1000 points one time. To get a big score you have to hit 8 out of 8, 10 out of 10, or something similar. Like trying to hit a royal or aces with a kicker. Have no idea how the odds of getting 10 out of 10 compares to getting a royal flush but it seems difficult so far.

10 of 10 is a lot more difficult than a Royal. Even 8 of 8 is more difficult.

8 of 8: 1 in 230,114
10 of 10: 1 in 8,911,711

That latter number is closer to hitting a 20X Royal on today's VP contest. That is, a dealt Royal with any deal multiplier, which is about 1 in 9.74 million. No one has hit it yet as of 5 pm EST. And why can't this Double STP game exist in the casino?? 100.08%!    The best I am aware of is 8/5 Bonus w/DSTP (99.67%).

Thank you Vman. That kind of puts things into perspective. Do you have any idea what the payback or EV of Cleopatra Keno is? I am sure it varies but is there a minimum payback set or I wonder how the math on Keno works?

Keno seems to be a popular game at the casinos that have it. Even on this website there seems to be a large contingent of people playing it. Unfortunately not very many of them are willing to discuss Keno on this forum.

Here it's roughly 95%, except for Pick 3 and 10, which is about 5% higher than the "Wizard of Odds" found at the $1/$2 level at New York New York. Yikes.

Cleopatra Keno Analysis

Payback is set by the paytables just like video poker. Minimum paybacks are subject to state rules for slots/video poker (75% in NV; 80%+ virtually everywhere else), but most video keno will typically be around 90%. Basic Keno math looks like this:

Probabilities in Keno

Below C(x, y) = x!/(x-y)!/y!
Example C(5,3) = 5!/(5-3)!/3! = 120/2/6 = 10 ways to choose 3 items from 5

Probability of Catch 3 in a 10-spot game:
C(20,3)*C(60,7)/C(80,10) = 0.2674023678

Substituting the paytables for the videopoker.com contest in and re-crunching the math leads to:

Game     Base Return     Bonus Return     Total Return
Pick 3        0.679893          0.260372          0.940265
Pick 4        0.566728          0.385784          0.952511
Pick 5        0.696803          0.253691          0.950495
Pick 6        0.585229          0.365086          0.950316
Pick 7        0.490622          0.460105          0.950727
Pick 8        0.625833          0.325097          0.950930
Pick 9        0.530996          0.419373          0.950370
Pick 10      0.455589          0.507184          0.962773

Thank you Vman for going to the trouble to provide this information. It appears that the best odds is to play 10 spots rather than fewer. That is the type of info I was looking for. A 95% payback is still better than what you can expect from an ordinary slot machine.

So far in this contest I have played 30 sessions and have broken the 700 mark 14 times. My high score is 1964 and the best hit I have had is 7 out of 10. In light of that I am not doing as bad as I thought I would.

I am not too far away from being even if you add up the score of all 30 games. I am assuming 800 is the breakeven score. In the event I would have hit a 8,9, or 10 out of 10 hit I would be way ahead.

If I have done my math correctly, if I had of played these 30 sessions at the casino I would have ran $6000 through the machines. At CET this would work out to either 600 or 1200 tier credits depending on whether you have to play $5 or $10 to get a tier credit. Still waiting for a definitive answer.

Thanks again for your help Vman.

Just finished final 10 sessions of Cleopatra Keno. Did not come close to finishing in the top 10 put did not do as bad as I thought I would.

I ended up playing a total of 50 sessions, 10 each day. My high score was 1964 and ended up with seven of the 50 in four figures and 25 of the 50 above the 700 where you are awarded a bonus entry.

It was interesting but never caught more than 7 out 10. I did better when I stayed with the same 10 numbers rather than trying to switch them up. Ironically the person who is in the lead at this point did so with numbers 1 through 10. I think he hit 10 out of 10 in one of his bonus rounds.

Going to local casino next week. May play a little and see what happens. Hopefully, all of the 8, 9, and 10 out of 10's I did not get in the last 5 days will show up there.

like VP I think, but the paytables should make them count like slots.

If no one answers this first, I'll try in tunica this weekend and double check.

I double checked and CET requires $10 coin-in per tier credit like they do for VP.

I played this game linked below. Tunica Roadhouse had the "more liberal paytable" listed on the Wizard's page. I played pick-5, which says it has a 90.29% return. I think my actual return was closer to 75%. Considering keno paybacks though, they really should let them earn tier credits just like slots.
