Grand Victoria Casino, Elgin IL

Anybody have any opinions about the VP here (GVC)? Any suggestions about which games/machines to play? How do you think GVC compares with Hollywood in Aurora... or the casinos in Joliet? Thanks for any input :-)

From what I remember the video poker offerings at GVC are limited. Taking into consideration that they are not tied into any other casinos, unlike Hollywood properties, your best bet would be to head to Hollywood in Joliet. The other benefit is that Hollywood Joliet is only a 10 minute drive from Harrahs Joliet too.

Agree with Ted, better off going to Joliet.

Unfortunately, Joliet is the farthest away, but there is a Hollywood in Aurora that's closer. I used to go there regularly but about a year (or more) ago it seemed my luck there went south. Tried several times and just couldn't squeeze any wins out of them.. lol. Grand Victoria has quite a selection of machines now..(lots of remodelling recently) and they're mostly all in one section (which I like), but I was wondering what the 'overall consensus' was on the property. I sure do appreciate your input, Tedlark and Vman!

p.s. only went to Rivers Casino inRosemont once.. didn't care for it at all..

oops.. almost forgot - I was wondering, Ted, what is the advantage of a casino with more than one property?

The two PNG properties in Northern Illinois; Hollywood Aurora and Hollywood Joliet are tied in to each other so the same card is used by both properties. PNG (Penn National Gaming) has several other properties across the United States at it would be easier to get room and meal comps for these other properties because of your play at the other properties. To my knowledge GVC is not cross marketing themselves with any Las Vegas properties as one of the local Indiana casinos does, if Grand Victoria were the only casino that you ever played at then multi property locations wouldn't matter. Hollywood Casino in Lawrenceburg, IN however is not tied into the Illinois properties but they were working on tieing them in to each other.

I'm glad to hear that Grand Victoria has remodeled, it has been about 2 years since I was in there so I don't know if I was there before or after the remodeling. Last time I was there, the machine selection was limited (i.e. no new games what so ever), the machines were old and were in need of some TLC.

I have only been to Rivers 2 times myself and I didn't care for it either time. Crowds were a major issue for me there.

Found this out yesterday when I stopped at the Hollywood Casino in Columbus, Ohio.  It was my first visit there and when I went to the Player's Club to get a card, I was a little taken aback when they told me that I was already in the system.  Then she explained to me about the properties being tied in to each other (I had been to a Penn National Gaming casino in Pennsylvania).

The remodelling at GVC has been more recent than 2 years ago. They have a bunch of new machines and even have some at the new show bar (stage behind the bar) where in addition to multi-game, multi-denomination games you can find single line games for $ .25 (for those lean times, lol).
I understand now about the multi-property advantage, but I don't travel much so am not really affected I guess. Thanks again for the info!

Thank you for the heads up on the remodeling at GVC, I wonder if it was necessitated because of the arrival of Rivers casino? I may have to stop by GVC and check it out if I'm ever up in that neck of the woods.

Good Luck.

That fact helped me lose $200 in 30 minutes as a "new member" last month as part of a loss rebate. I was already in the main database thanks to harrahs st. Louis sale.
