Vegas Memories.....

Post by Galeygoo »

I participated in a thread earlier this week about great Vegas memories. I wonder how many of us can bring back some of those wonderful stories/memories.

Was thinking about a seafoood restaurant in The Dunes....It rotated at 360degrees and had outstanding entrees. Anyone remember the name? OR , PLEASE post your memories/ suggestions of YOUR FAVORITES. There were so many favorites I can remember, both good and bad, lol, would love to hear some of yours.....

Another one I can think of off hand, what was the casino that offered the fountain of Bloody Mary's and Campagne? It was next to Slots o' Fun....C Mon folks, this should be fun....lol

A lot of memories going back to the 1980s for me.One of the biggest things I miss is the ease you used to be able to park & get around in your car, even on the strip.I miss that surface parking lot right in front of Bally's were you could park and be walking center strip like 30 seconds later.I also miss that time where properties were transitioning from motel rooms to towers and you could get one of the motel rooms, midweek, at a place like the Stardust for $15 a night and park your car right smack dab in front of your room.

It was definitely Westward Ho. I stayed and played there for many years and enjoyed those Bloody Marys from the fountain. What great times we had there with the free F&B for hotel guests.

We will never see that again!

My first trip to Vegas was in May 1992. I had never before been to a casino of any sort. When I first walked into the hotel lobby, I was awestruck.. all the lights and sounds.. oh my! We stayed at the Imperial Palace which was across the street from Caeser's Palace, in the middle of the strip. It was there that I discovered Video Poker (and the rest is history..lol). Walking up and down the strip I just couldn't get over all the lights and sights.. and water in the desert, even! In my subsequent visits I stayed at the Riviera once - where I was playing VP (of course) at the bar by the lounge where a band was playing when Drew Carey and a bunch of folks came in and livened things up. Fun :-)   I also stayed at the Stardust a couple of times with a group of Prodigy friends at their annual excursions.. more fun!   Unfortunately, I've been unable to get back there since 1998 and while I saw alot of changes in that 6 year span, I'm sure I'd be lost if I went there now. At least casinos have become legal all over now so I can pursue my VP addiction locally.. lol    Anyway, with any (a lot of) luck I'll get to Vegas again - I sure hope so!

Oh how I wish I could call Southwest Airlines and book a trip.

Many of you brought back memories for me I could certainly relate to.  Gotta admit, although it wasn't a favorite place to game for me, I always remember how fun it was to pick up a DELICIOUS  hot dog in front of the Imperial Palace and a "side" of pop corn.  Then remember thinking "how long has it been since you vacuumed?" while walking/stumbling to the "MaiTai Bar".  lol   Ah, the good ole days.

I remember a one lane each way with almost no traffic, straight as an arrow thru the desert, and wondering if we were ever going to see civilization again...

Going by the airport, and then thinking it took forever to get to Vegas. (That was back in the 50'sand early 60's when I was just a kid)...

Getting to Vegas, but no 'Welcome to Vegas' sign to tell that you had arrived...

The giant neon thunderbird...

Hard right turn at Fremont street, and watching all the lights...the neon cowboy and horse... back in the days before there were any bypasses to Henderson and the Dam...

The neon bubbles on the tower in front of the Flamingo...

The one arm bandits at the gas stops, that usually payed 2 for 1 nickles if it hadn't been played for a little while. It was a buzz, being lifted up and pulling that handle, then putting that 10 cents in my pocket...

"Hey!!! Look at that Welcome sign!!!!"...

Plastic cups next to the slots for coins...

Dollar tokens that kind of thud, instead of clink...

Thinking that Circus-Circus, then under construction, was amazing, and going to be an awesome place.

The Stratosphere was just a bunch of concrete pillars..."what's that gonna be???"...

All you can eat buffets for a couple of bucks without comps...

There's lots of stuff I remember...I just wish I had a camera back then...
