Newbie with a plenty of questions

Post by btay »

Hello all, first of all thanks for the website because it contains very useful information.

I'm a former poker player really bored and looking for a new game and looking for alternatives I found the video poker and so I have read quite a lot about the game, but I stayed with two basic questions:

1) Can I with study make an average of 500 dollars a month in Jacks or Better and/or Deuces Wild? I have no intention of living the game, but an additional gain.

2) Can I trust in online casinos? I don' t know any casino near my house, so I would have to play online.

Thanks.

1. Unless you can consistently "bonus whore". No. Video poker is generally a losing game even when played perfectly. It almost always below 100% return online.

2. It's questionable at best.

I believe you can be lucky over a period of time, but you will eventually lose in the long run.  Even if you think you can play computer perfect; age, fatigue, distractions and just plain human frailties will eventually cost you money.  Also, real 100% plus opportunities are getting very hard to find.  Don't quit your day job...

Play table games in the casino to win money, and play VP to have fun and to help build comps.

Of course, winning money is fun.

I can't comment on on line gambling at all. Personally, I don't trust it, but that is just a feeling. Also there are legal issues. I think in the long run, if you play video poker with a good paytable and few errors, you can come close to breaking if you value the comps, free rooms, food, and gifts at retail. If we could beat them in the long run, they wouldn't be in business and certainly wouldn't be expanding like crazy across the USA. I also think that in general, casinos do not like video poker players. I have heard this from many, many, sources. As one example, my friend's and my average bets are about the same per session. His on regular slots, and mine on video poker. His monthly comps and offers are 10 times what mine are and this is every month for the past 2 years. Our totals waged for the year are also almost identical.
