Short drive to a casino?

Sweet C and I make our 2 hour trip more enjoyable by going a route that by passes most of I-10 and through lots of rice fields and a National Wildlife area. We pass the time counting "hawks" we can see from the road. Love the winter months when the Canadian geese come in and the migratory hawks numbers swell into the tens. Best trip was an amazing 61 hawks in a 40 mile stretch.

And I thought I was the only one who counted hawks on the way to the casino. My best count was 22 in a 60 mile stretch.

Counting hawks sounds much more productive/positive than counting dead deer on our road trips. How I wish I would not do that on several levels! "Don't veer for deer" signs are all over our area. Translation: Better to hit a deer than another vehicle, tree, roll over etc. when trying to avoid deer. Deer really hate these signs! Deer ran through our yard yesterday and today. Always a thrill to see them!

Stubborn freezing drizzle here. Supposed to warm up later so I can make my 1st trip to Mohegan Sun for 2014. Right now you could ice skate your way there. Funny, I have been playing on this site off and on today and haven't hit anything. Hope the no hits are here and the real ones are there. Anyone venturing out today in Ct. be extremely careful. I would advise against it until late afternoon and even then double check the temp. There is a small band of coyotes operating in our neighborhood. Some small dogs, cats, and the usual cottontail rabbits have disappeared. Too bad there is only one way to deal with them. The ones here are beautifu. Golden red with big bushy tails.

We have Red Fox too. These guys are big like the size of a small German Shephard. Long legs too. They are very fast. We have some grayish ones too, but this band has really nice color. Have been reported in the news too. Very smart.

Only way to control them is by lead poisioning. High velocity lead poisioning. They are a very bad carrier of mange also.

One beautiful coyote loped through our back yard. We posted warning signs in the hood and alerted nearby neighbors. A local naturalist claims they will not bother adults but residents with small children and pets should be with them when they venture outside.

It's been snowing all day and it's too heavy for the snow blower. I always told my ski classes to wear a hat because 90% of body heat goes through the top of their head. Just standing still in freezing temps causes blood vessels to constrict and makes the heart work twice as hard. Shoveling snow may be good exercise and keep you warm but also compounds the heart work. Redness and pain are first signs for frost bite and then numbness! Use LUKE WARM water, NOT HOT water to help thaw out super chilled parts. Why this good advice on a VP site? Elementary! So you will live longer, hit more royals and do your part to keep casinos in business!

I don't know about the royals, MM, but I can attest (spelling?) to the fact that my fingers were getting numb while attempting to get my car out of the snow drift....Yikes...
