Re: AC comps

Post by DaBurglar »

I will be playing the 8 full pay machines on Thrusday.   Wednesday I would like to get out of work early to get to AC befor dark.  Good luck at the poker tournments.
thanks      I try either thursday morning (before noon), or thursday after dinner (after 7pm) to check those showboat machines for you.......Tourney time runs from about noon until 5pm, depending on how many people enter the daily tourney at eithe Borgata or Harrahs.    Tropicana daily tourney is twofold, one at 11:30am and one at 7:15pm.    Showboat has daily tournaments as well, but quite often they only attract enough to fill two tables so it becomes more of a "sit n g" than a actual tourney. A lot of AC poker rooms have been shut down and put out of business, or severely curtailed operations.   The Taj Mahal's poker room used to be the center of the poker universe on the east coast, but when Borgata opened up in 2005, the Taj steadily went down the tubes so that NOW, they do not have any more daily tournaments during the week!    If they are lucky, on Saturday night they might actually be able to scrounge up 45-50 semi-drunk weekend partiers to throw together a 6 table event, but that's a big IF.....its too bad, I liked the Taj Poker room, well lit, easy access, BIG and ROOMY, and good food service!

Hi folks newbie here. Just got back from showboat and they have the little stickers on the full pay machines indicating $50 per tier credit. Played some 8-5 as I needed the credits. Good luck to all

you are talking about the bank of 8 machines i referenced in my previous post right?    what about all the other machines in the casino?  all the crappy paytables> are they still the same or did they knock them down too? and thanks for that headsup, and welcome.   now I know to scratch showboat off the dwindling list of acceptable AC casinos

Yes DaB, I believe they are in section km through kq. As those were the only full pay job I had ever noticed at showboat. That entire area seemed to have the same old machines. I did play some Job on the new Hi def machines at Ballys. They were 8-5 for $1 and 7-5 for lesser amounts Did not look for full pay as I was building tier score to get me into 2014. Not sure if that is a great strategy though.

I was afraid of that Jon C.   I was hoping that they would wait till got the new video poker machines, before the made that change.      At Bally’s I did see some $1 9/5 and 8/6 machines for $10 for 1 credit.  For short term play they are your best bet. But the house advantage is like 3 x what the 9/6 machines are.   For long term play (playing 40,000 hands or more and hitting a royal) your best bet is to stay with the 9/6 machines and hope you get a royal.  Will have to think a bit to see what my best play    will be for 2014.   Right now I am thinking of forgetting about trying to get Diamond status by playing the dollar machines, And just play some 25 Cent 9/6 J or B, and paying for my food and rooms if I say over.   The math says that this will be the best for me (least expensive) as my bank roll will not last very long on the dollar machines. But compared to playing the penny slots it’s still your best play at the casino.

Where did you see the 8-6 and 9-5 machines? I was playing on one of the new machines down from and a little left of the lobby bar. Truth be told, I didn't look for anything better based on some of info on this and another board.

I guess it just goes to show that you can't always trust what people post about the machine's in AC (or elsewhere) and the paytables. Like Mike Brady used to say: "Caveat emptor, caveat emptor."

Yep edog, buyer beware. Mr. Brady said that to Greg when Greg bought an old piece of crap Chevy convertible. Greg turned that piece of junk into a really nice piece of junk that fell apart around him after he got it running.

I rarely play VP at Bally's when I am in AC, so I cannot speak with any authority or accuracy on whats happening there lately.....But if I were you, since this is the start of the new year, and if AC is your primary gambling spot, do some math and figure out if CET Diamond Club is in fact your best value and way to go.    what I mean is, I have found that for my level of play and given that AC Video Poker is very dodgy (compared to Nevada) , I am better off giving my play (or giving my money lol) to Resorts, or even Trump because they offer a quicker path to free rooms and food for less coin in, plus in the case of Resorts, they have 8/5 Bonus Poker on the vast majority of their Video Poker game menus! The only comps I care about (especially as far as AC is concerned) is getting jusssst enough points for free rooms and an occasional buffet or food credit......but even if I did not get any food I wouldnt care, I just want to be able to book a room whenever I want, at the last minute or whatever and whenever, and not have to pay for it.    Since my main focus is now just playing actual Poker tournaments (n/l Holdem), my VP play is the means I use to acquire the comps I need. Trump is desperate, so if you go to the Taj or Plaza, and plop a few hundred bucks into their VP machines you will receive a crapload of comps at least in the short term, longer term if you continue to play and drop more money (pick the least dreadful paytable you can find at Trump, which is usually one of the few progressive DDB machines in the place.)  Trumps strategy is to just shotgun a lot of comps your way and then see what hooks you in, and then repeat that until you change your play.... The only thing about playing at Taj and/or Resorts (remember they are connected so essentially they make one big casino) is that in AC, you will encounter VP machines that return percentages FAR below what their paytables imply, because afterall, they are simply just another form of SLOT machine according to Atlantic City Rules, and if you have been playing in AC for a while, I am sure you have run into machines that just deal loads of crap, dud hands that just come one after the other after the other.......whether the paytable says 99%, 98, or 97 or whatever, the machine may actually simply be set to deal enough zero value hands to ensure a return percent of 88%, or 86, or 90, etc. etc.    its a slot machine!
