Shutting down your machine for a break

Post by olds442jetaway »

Does anyone know which casinos in A/C will shut down your machine so you can take a break? In CT., Mohegan Sun will allow this for 2 hours for a level 3 player and 1-1/2 hours for a level 2 player. Just curious, since I may have an A/C trip or two sometime in the spring.

I've seen it done for a 7* player at Harrahs, and it got real intresting when another 7* wanted to play the same machine.

While I'm not familiar with the current rules of AC casinos, often how long a machine is held depends on what is going on. During special promotion weekends, it's not unusual to find "no machines will be saved" policies.Tipping can help get machines held. Also, known players get more of a break on this than do players the attendants have never seen before. Finally, asking nicely can often yield better results than a gruff "tell me what the rules are!" attitude.

I think Bob hit the key factors, we frequently have machines shut down for lunch, dinner, etc. One, we are frequent players, we make it a point to talk to all of the techs and many stop by while we play to chat, and most importantly we try to always treat these employees as friends and with respect and good will. We tip only if the casino is busy and the techs are always appreciative.

I have found Mohegan Sun to have the nicest employees of almost any business I have ever been to. I have called or sent emails to the higher ups several times citing what I believe to be superior customer service. I hope they got rewarded somehow. This goes for everyone from the cleaning crew to the managers in almost all areas. I buy small gifts for them too as a little token of appreciation. Usually, it is something to munch on, a warm scarf, or even a little costume jewelry for the gals. Lots of places to buy goodies for that at Mohegan. I rarely ask for anything above what is offered. I can't stand those who somehow think they are entitled to something special just because they lost their money. Talk about gruff and rude. Those are the ones. The same ones who cut lines, hold their cigarette at eye level right next to you eyes, or flaunt their supposed wealth or status. So far so good. Haven't run into any for 2014. Of course I have only made one trip so far....brrrrrr. lol...hope the vortex is out of here soon and back to the pole.

It is amazing how little considerations pay back dividends. We've gotten awesome service from (Kim) one of the Reservation Clerks when we call. Kim recognizes our names, knows our room preferences and generally tries to assign us to one of the rooms/floors we prefer. A simple gift card of thanks to her several months ago probably bailed us out on our New Year's Eve trip.

When we called to request a floor the day we came over, the reservation clerk indicated our reservations were for different days even though we had email confirmation. Kim overheard our conversation with another clerk, recognized our names and quickly checked under a host list and told us she would be assigning us to our preferred room. New Year's Eve trip saved. Two dozen cookies delivered to Reservation/Front desk as thanks New Year's Eve when we arrived cost us little but meant much to the harried staff.

I am probably in the minority, but I happen to think that capping, or shutting down a machine, is rude. To me, it is the equivalent of closing a road to everyone else because at some time in the near future you may want to drive on it.

I am a 7Star with Caesars/Harrah's and a NOIR with MGM, but I never request a machine cap. I once called the President of Caesars LV, Gary Selsner, to have a Caesars LV machine (a large progressive slot) opened for me, after the managers there, including the then casino manager, gave me the brush off. It is amazing how quickly things can get done when you can get to the right level of an organization.

I do not think anyone should have the right to reserve a machine for themselves if there are other patrons who wish to play it when you are not there playing. This is especially true of unique games where there may only be one or two machines, and machines with large progressives.

the only reason a machine should be held I while you are playing you need to go to the restroom and a security guard or other casino employee "watches" the game,

I don't have mine shut down, but it is nice to know the option is there. A slot attendant will watch it for you for a quick b room break at Mohegan. It can be tough if there are only a couple of a certain machine that people go to often. The other school of thought is the early bird gets the worm or in the case of slots and vp, the bigger loss for the most part the longer you play.

There are many reasons the wife and I have virtually stopped going to the local CET property. Shutting down machines at the only DDB RF progressive bank is one of them. Quite frankly, we find the comps and customer service better elsewhere. In fact, haven't seen machines shut down at any of the other local properties we frequent.
