Re: Wacky start to New Year's first session
I chalk things up to screwy luck, nothing more or nothing less. In my years of playing VP, I have never hit a royal on a single line game. And I mean NEVER over the course of 10 years. But oddly enough, in my limited play of DDB $1, I have hit 4A with kicker and regular aces three times each. Three times I have witnessed players hit two single line royals just a few minutes apart. Just the other day, twice I drew the exact same card (7h) on each hand of a 3play game - while holding 4 cards. I believe the machines are random and legit, but off luck sure does happen.

Same here except for 13 years. But I had a few year hiatus moving to live poker more.
I have 3 Royals, all while playing more than one hand and all at the 1 or 2c level...meh
But if you have hit Aces only 6 times total (with or w/o kicker), you may not have played one full "royal cycle" yet. "royal cycle" = average number of hands needed for a royal, which is about 40,000 hands. And at that point, you would still 36.79% likely not to hit a royal. On 1-line quarters, I'm not sure I have played a full cycle either, but I think I am close and I have also have no quarter royals. :( Also no royals on nickels either which is probably another cycle or so worth of hands...bah.
But I keep bad records, so it's definitely possible I am overcounting my hands. Hopefully I am. I feel like I do play VP a lot.

What...are you guys cold? I haven't heard about that. I've had my head stuck into a video poker machine.

That was the greatest thing about going to Tunica this weekend. It was just normal cold weather to me while there. Thank god they didn't get ice or snow though, that would have been a complete disaster. St. Louis/East Central Missouri took way too long to clear their snow. Dealt with it on I-55 on the way back 48 hours after it stopped snowing there.

I should have said no royals in 200k total single line hands. Aces 6 times in my limited $1 play (only 10-12k) hands.

Things just got even wackier on my 3rd trip for 2014. I got a little $ ahead on the nickel Multi-Strike game and proceeded to play a quarter 9/6 job machine. MISTAKE!!! Hit 3 quads in an hour. You would think that was good right. Each quad was with 4's. Each quad was followed by 20-30 consecutive dud hands that completely offset what the quad just paid!!!. Not much else came in. No flushes and only one full house. I would say about 600 hands total in an hour. The bottom line is I kissed a hundred bucks goodbye on that job machine. I think I will stick to my guns playing the tougher games on lower denominations with the chance of some big hits coming in.

Hopefully the dollar AWAKs have helped balance out the royal drought a bit.

There is still no shortage of wacky vp results so far this year. Wife had just cashed out and was about even. She was at the other end of the casino, but on her way to make sure we headed out at our agreed upon time. The usual for me...no Royals, no deuces quads, etc. I knew I had time for about 2 dozen hands before she got to my play area. I was playing regular deuces wild quarters. Nothing big, but hit 4 wild Royals in 20 hands. Made a little dent anyway.
