NYE Trip Report

Post by AAcmeblues »

NYE at Fremont street was a great party. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Main Street Station is a nice place to stay...no frill...fits the bill for a place to sleep. You've seen all the other TR's and website reviews. Sadly, every place we visited was ratcheted down tight. Didn't win anything, and didn't hear of any winners.

Most exciting part was the plane ride home. SW Air flight took off on time, despite the entire eastern part of the country being iced in. About 45 mins into the flight, the pilot announces that one fuel tank is showing about twice the fuel consumption of the other tank. About 10 minutes later, the pilot announces that, per standard procedure, that the engine will be shut down and the flight will return to Vegas. Needless to say, everybody on board was a bit startled. We made it back to McCarran, if slowly, on only one engine. During the last minute before landing, the pilot announces that we should not be alarmed, and that the firetrucks lining the runway is just a precaution, and that we should not be alarmed, and that they will escort us from the runway to the terminal. My wife was goggle-eyed. Being an ex air force man, I didn't soil my pants. after sitting on the tarmac for about half an hour, we were released from the plane, and scheduled for another flight. I'm hoping that this is all the excitement we're due for 2014.

Several days later, SW Air sent us travel vouchers good for our next flight. All told, we arrived back home in Tulsa about 5 or 6 hours later than scheduled with a good travel story to tell.

And you got flight travel vouchers to boot, that helps your bottom line.

Glad it worked out OK for you. SWA is one of the few airlines these days to just 'do the right thing".
