Back from Laughlin

Post by ko king »

Just got back from four day and four nights at Harrah's in Laughlin so I thought I would pass on my experience. Harrah's did provide us with a suite and it was a decent room, we were in tower three. I have to say from the minute we checked in for departure to the time we got to the casino/hotel Harrah's did a fantantic job of taking care of us, after that we were on our own. We had a great time in Oatman and will always remember that place, very cool and a good time. The casino at Harrah's was packed for the four days we were there and I found lots of $2 denomination TDB and DDB games with decent paytables, a few 9/6/4 but mostly 9/5. I played a lot of video poker at Harrah's and without question or hesitation I will say it's the worst vp I have ever experienced in twenty years of playing the game, the bad never ended, ceased or changed the whole time we were there. Imagine the worst session of playing you have ever had and multiply it times four because that's what I got, never seen anything like it. I played most of my vp in the high limit area which had plenty of folks playing and only managed to hit 2 small quads in four days. In the four days we were at Harrahs I never saw a single handpay, not 1, nada, none. The machines acted like they were starving for money and just hitting a flush or full house was quite a chore, Like I said the worst vp I had ever seen in my entire life and I can never really began to explain how bad it really was because it was unbelievably disgusting. We jumped in our rental car and headed for Vegas and had a great day out there, wife hit Aces w/kicker while playing TDB and I hit quad Aces three times, four sets of quad 2's, 3's and 4's and too many other quads to remember at the casinos there. Both of us came back way ahead from our Vegas trip so we decided to give Harrahs one last try at proving the vp machines weren't the worst in the world. Same results, most agressive vp I have ever seen, I honestly think I could have spent $100K and never hit a single decent thing at that casino. Needless to say we will never ever ever go back to Laughlin.

It's too bad you had such rotten luck in Laughlin; care to share where you were playing in Las Vegas?
Edited to add: congrats on your hits in Las Vegas.

Glad you enjoyed Oatman and your trip to Vegas. On our first trip to Laughlin the slots were not kind to us either. On subsequent trips we have done a lot better. We really enjoy their diamond lounge and find Laughlin different from any other gambling destination we have been to. Maybe if you give Laughlin another try you will have better luck next time.

Worst of the worst, my 4-day Harrah's/Laughlin experience earns the top spot on my wall of shame. I've had my share of bad sessions and even weekends but nothing compared to this/

This was my first trip to Vegas by the way, my wife has been a few times with her parents and my daughter. We were only able to spend one day there but we made as many stops as we could. First stop was Tropicana, no jackpots but hit quad Aces, quad 4's and quad kings playing $1 TDB left $1,200 ahead. We then jumped over to Excalibur and we both hit a couple of small quads playing $1 DDB. We went into Cosmopolitan but didn't play, very nice upscale looking place. The Bellagio was crazy nice but we didn't play much there because every machine we sat down to play at had either buttons that stuck or the machine kept hanging up on the dealt cards, odd that such a nice casino had such crappy machines. Hit quad 3's at Ceasars and the wife hit Aces. To end the day we went back to Tropicana and I hit Quad Aces playing $2 DDB and several more small quads.

We loved Oatman, good call on your part. I hate to say never but I really have never experienced such bad vp for such a long period, people were playing all around me in the high limit area every night and I swear I never seen one single jackpot/handpay. The whole casino was packed and the wife and I walked the entire place more than once and didn't see a single one ever. I found Laughlin a little different myself and kind of liked the laid back atmosphere but the vp let me down in a big way. Losing money playing vp is no stranger to me but that was just over the line bad.

That place must be hooked up with Mohegan. If you see my results in Royalless streak posts, I think our results are similar. Hope the rest of the trip was enjoyable at any rate.

Harrahs provided you with a suite, took fantastic care of you over your stay, had the games at the denominations you like to play, and with decent paytables, but you will never ever ever go back? You're hard to please.

Believe me, if I took that position on every casino where I had had a bad day, or a few bad days, I would have nowhere to play!

Me hard to please, I'm one of the easiest folks in the world to please, I'm just not a big fan of flying clear across the country and getting the brakes beat off me for four days. I'll take my losses as good as the next guy but I'll also tell everybody how bad the vp was for me, what else would you expect me to do tell a lie and say how great the vp was. Don't forget I earned the trip, paid for it thur the year based on the amount of play I had at my local casino, they gave me nothing, in fact I actually paid for twice, so shoot me for telling the truth about how my trip went.
