As most of you know, I am a big advocate of single coin video poker play for recreational players who play negative expectation games.  I love video poker and decided over a year ago to test, refine and document my strategy. Since switching from max coin play to a progressive single coin strategy, the affect on my bankroll has been dramatic.   For the first time in years, I am significantly ahead.  I just put up a small website at http://www.cheapvideopoker.com  explaining how it works.  I'm not getting paid anything for this website and I'm not trying to sell anything, so I hope the admin doesn't edit my post.  See what you think.   I have thick skin, so feel free to make constructive criticism.

Wow - great job, Phil. Whether someone believes in your approach or not, it is certainly an approach that should not be ignored.

Thanks for sharing that with us (instead of making us buy the software/book).

Glad you like it.  Playing this way makes the already exciting game of Deuces Wild into a sort of Multi-Strike clone.  Level one is single coin quarters, level two is max coin quarters, level three is single coin dollars and level four is max coin dollars.  You don't mind playing single coin quarters because you know the next level could be on the next hand.  The big advantage is the huge number of hands you get to play this way.  You see a lot more quad deuces and Royals.  Odds are you are going to hit one of these at max coins and you'll smile a lot.

Thanks for the interesting link Phil. I'm not much of a fan of playing strategies other than playing as close to 100% correct play as humanly possible. I do not try or agree with martingale systems for VP. Yours is somewhat of a progressive system that would show some profit however so I might consider trying it for a $20. Thank you again for the link and good luck in your ventures

Great job Phil. I have been playing something similar for the last couple of weeks only instead of 1 to 5, I have been playing 1, 2, 5. I think I will try yours tomorrow and will probably like it better. I have been playing on a nickel game which is only 95 percent just as kind of a test. I like the part about not hitting max until you win 4 or more on the prior hand. Haven't caught a Royal yet, but did hit 4 deuces for 250- when I jumped up my bet after hitting quads which does pay 4 for 1 on this game. Again great job and everything was an easy read and very easy to follow. Best of continued success and thanks for the site and the method. Last, but not least. I like this because it takes the complete boredom out of 1 coin quarters play. You anticipate getting the small hit so you can catch the whopper. No, I don't mean Burger King...guess I still have fishing on my mind.

The martingale strategy fails even with unbounded stopping time, as long as there is a limit on earnings or on the bets. It is only with unbounded wealth, bets and time that the martingale becomes a winning strategy.

Yes, ultimately they will all fail. At least Phil's method is kind of fun and will produce some small gains most of the time and the occasional big one. Whatever one is comfortable with and has fun with is the important thing. Personally, I can't sit and play the same 5 coins in on the same game all day long. I never get bored playing, but I do get bored how I am playing. Of course any side entertainment that wanders by or sits down nearby is a bonus win or lose.
