The same basic thing is happening in Tunica, the place went from boomtown to bombtown. It hasn't been that many years back when all the casinos were packed, now they're pretty much dead with the exception of the weekends and even then the crowds are nothing to speak of. I've pretty much packed it in and called it quits, the value is no longer there, the bad paytables, poor service and results have taken their toll on me and I just don't bother with the casinos anymore. I said the same basic thing as to how the casinos could make a comeback but they are just ate up with the stupid corporate mentality that says when things slow down you cut cost, as a 20 year small business owner I happen to believe that's the time to pick up your game not drop the ball. Whatever happens to the casinos is completely their fault, they brought it all upon themselves. I mean who would have thought that cutting paytables, cutting comps and cutting, cutting and cutting would have resulted in fewer folks visiting their business, that would be all the folks not visiting their place of business. Harrahs is closing down, no buyer in site and I believe I heard The Fitz sold for $1.89.

great post Koking.......I've often forgotten that Tunica has essentially followed the same trajectory as AC, but in my opinion AC has far more to offer, and therefore far less of an excuse, than Tunica so I would expect AC to be able to at least stop its bleeding and start surviving a lot faster and easier than Tunica.    I mean AC still has some decent reasons to visit BESIDES casinos, not the least of which is the whole Jersey shore vibe-thing and all that goes with it, not to mention the relative proximity to NYC, Philadelphia, Washington DC and many other urban centers......I mean, there are SO MANY people within 2 hours drive to AC that it truly is mind boggling they are in the pickle they are......can you imagine what Vegas would be like if that many people were within 2 hours drive of it???   Los Angeles is 4 plus hours drive  and that alone was enough to set Vegas on its historical trajectory and keep it there.....oh sure, Vegas has since leveled off and even suffered too, but the thing I am complaining about with AC is NOT that it has stopped growing and making huge profits, I am distressed with its (slow) DEATH SPIRAL!!!And yes, DORIS......da burglar is in fact my real name.   Now, would you like to buy some shares in My bridge located over the hudson river in the Brooklyn area????

I agree it isn't like it used to be.. my 11 days in Vegas.. this is what has happened to the Little River in northern Michigan.. no management... I always got a free room every month.. not in over a year.. always had at least 50 free play... now it's 5 dollars... used to get drinks if you were playing for 50 cents.. no more... this casino is 4 hours from me... am I driving there for nothing...no... even the locals are talking about it...something has changed... it isn't like it used to be...so what is it ? About 10 years ago when I was in Vegas.. I played 10 cents.. five play... in 2 days I got 8 royals... not a lot of money but it kept me going and I had fun.. 11 days last month.. playing nickels, dimes and quarter I got nothing to speak of.. lastnight there hit the A"s with a kicker for 2,000... that was the most fun I had playing VP..anyway that's my story..

Tunica and Atlantic City are like two different worlds as far as what the areas have to offer. If you go to Tunica it's all about the casinos, there's nothing else but a tiny strip mall (many of the stores are now closed or on the brink of closing) and farmland. The only thing that has changed in Tunica are the amount of players, they were there in droves for many years but it's like a ghost town most of the time now. I kid you not last time I was The Fitz there were more employees than players, it got so bad at Harrahs I was the only person playing VP many times. There has been no change in the population surrounding the Tunica casinos and the economy is in pretty decent shape so what happened to all the players. If I ever decided to run my business in the ground and chase away business the Tunica area casinos have provided the perfect example as to how it should be done. If I didn't know any better I would think it's almost being done on purpose because I can't understand the amount of ignorance and greed that is needed to mess things up so bad. I've seen all kinds of businesses come and go thru the years and everyone of the failures was due to bad management or poor products, Tunica seems to have both. As bad as things are in Tunica I have zero doubt I could take over Harrahs and within a year I would have that place hopping again.

I'm heading to Tunica tomorrow to play in a golf event over the weekend. It should be interesting to see how the gaming is, since I do not go to Tunica that often.

I had to laugh when I was sent my post trip survey after my most recent trip to Harrah's Tunica this past Memorial Day weekend. One of the questions asked how likely you would be to visit Harrah's Tunics again on my next visit and my reply was: not likely. I was then asked why and I answered with "because you're closing the place next week." I wanted to say "it's because you're closing the place down stupid." I showed restraint.
