Yet Another Jackpot...Act Two

Post by FloridaPhil »

I just got back from my weekly trip to the Tampa Hard Rock.  I played for 3 hours with nothing to show for it except one $50 single coin quad deuce ticket.  At least I was going home with something.  About 2 PM I put in another $20 and got two single coin wild deuces back to back.  The counter was sitting at $32 so I switched to dollars.  A few more hands and I hit  a max coin 5 of a kind. On the next hand I got another max coin dollar quad deuce jackpot for $1,000.  That's two weeks in a row.  This is crazy, but I like it.

Hope some of that rubs off up here Phil. Great going by the way. Tried the Phil method without changing it at all. Didn't work well on Double Down Stud. Caught deuces quads twice in about an 9 hour period, on single line regular Deuces game, but both were at 1 coin for 50 bucks each. Gave it back plus a good chunk before the end of the day. The worm box is now empty except for one or two little ones. Unless I can fill it up with some nightcrawlers soon, it will be a little time off for me.

My suggestion would be to go to single lines Deuces.  I'm convinced the key is to cut your loses, instead of trying to increase your winnings.  Anyone can win a jackpot, keeping it is another matter.   When playing negative expectation games it's not the lack of wins that is keeping us in the red, it's the losses.

Think about this.  Suppose you have an old school accounting ledger (I'm showing my age here...).  The left column is your cash in for the day.  The right column is your winnings.  You can balance this ledger two ways; increase your winnings or decrease your losses.  With reasonably correct play, wins will happen.  What kills your profit is building up a big loss waiting to hit a jackpot or giving back the money after you have won it.  When playing a negative expectation game, you will never "catch up" because the odds are against you.  Here's what I believe.

As a recreational player, the only way you can beat the casino when playing a negative expectation video poker game is by hitting jackpots at a significantly higher denomination than the majority of your play.

Be patient, don't swing for the fence all the time and you will be fine. Let the game take care of itself. Max coin hits will happen and when they do you will smile because they aren’t getting it back anytime soon.
