L'Auberge Lake Charles

Post by BigHat »

I have recently been playing at this Casino in Lake Charles. Curious if anyone out there has any thoughts or insights about their experience with VP at LB?

I play VP regularly at L'Auberge. You have to watch the pay tables similar to other casinos. It's not Las Vegas however for Lake Charles, I enjoy it. Would like to see a few more different VP games/denominations though.

It is my understanding that barge based casinos are subject to a different tax, therefore the weaker pay tables. I found some 9/6 Bonus Deluxe and did quite well. At Glo Bar, on the same machine inside of 24 hours, I hit Quad Aces with a Ten of Clubs twice. That was on a 9/6 DDB. I would like to know the probability of that.

All Illinois casinos are water based and on barges and the same holds true for Indiana casinos.

I don't think being on barges plays a part in the taxes but being water based and on a barge is more because of the gaming regulations for those states. As part of the agreement Illinois politicians came up with when first enacting gaming legislation was that all casinos in the state needed to be on water.

I figured Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana just followed Iowa and Mississippi's lead. And it's like a natural zoning restriction I guess.

But more modern casino states like Ohio have just said, okay we can have 4 casinos in the state. One in Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, and Toledo. Just as easy. And probably better since the river provision could lead to flooding issues (Tunica May 2011 and Hurricane Katrina).

After Katrina, Biloxi lifted its "on the water" requirement for casinos.

BigHat,
Welcome to the forum. We've played LDL for many years and then switched to Isle Lake Charles for the better lower denomination pay tables and better comp.. After 7 years there we've moved most play since March to Coushatta for better/same pay tables with better comps than LDL or Isle. Lets try to meet up with JaTexas and other Texas players sometimes - would be nice to meet some fellow VP forum TX players.

Thanks for the post Lucky Larry. I spent an afternoon at Coushatta in December and found the pay tables there "tricky". I was there for a short time and didn't explore as much as I would have liked. On my last trip to LDL I found several 9/6 Bonus Poker Deluxe machines and killed it. I had at least 20 4oak's over a three day span. In a real quirky bit of luck I hit AAAATc twice on the same machine in less than 24 hours at GloBar. That was on a 9/6 DDB. I play $1 minimum so the tables are a little more favorable. Taking my family to Disney Monday and on the way back we are going to spend a couple days at LDL though we are considering 1 night at LDL Baton Rouge. Any experience there?

Tedlark:

I have to ask this question. Are you, by chance, in the Beer Can Business? One of the most elite dealers that I know of is a guy named Ted Larkin. It has been more than 20 years since I followed that stuff, but your call sign begs the question. Seems he was from Iowa or thereabouts.

He crushes the cans when they are empty. Does that count ?
