Just What AC Needs

Post by BillyJoe »

Paul Fireman, Reebok founder and venture capitalist, has proposed a $4.6 billion casino in Jersey City, N.J., that would include a hotel, Ferris wheel and venue for car racing. The project would require the state to allow casino gaming outside of Atlantic City. Las Vegas Review-Journal/The Associated Press (7/9)

Yeah, this has been all over the news the last couple of days. Don't know if it will get approved yet and I think it needs some sort of charter change, but if it does, bummer for A/C...

The next casino to fall. It's like domino's. http://www.pressofatlanticcity.com/aler ... f887a.html
If the casino's keep closing we will all be playing at one casino. Then that will make our meet & greet easier to get together. If we have one.

I just returned (EARLY) from my latest trip to AC.....if you read the article jimdeuces posted above then you can figure out why I  returned early (I mean REALLY read it....the power of the words used by the writer and the people he is quoting truly hits home and conveys the scope of the disaster.)    Never in my life have I seen a more depressing, morose scene than what I just witnessed at the various Boardwalk casinos and places of business along the boardwalk.   This is a deathblow.    Jimdeuces used the term "dominoes and he is spot-on ..... the way things like this work, because one struggling casino finally takes the plunge and shutters in the face of adversity, it now becomes EASIER for the next one, and the next one, to do the same because much of the "stink" and outrage and angst that comes from making such unpopular decisions is removed once someone starts it....Yes, just as the state representative said in the article this is indeed a CATASTROPHIC depression.....and it will get even worse because now EVEN more people who still might have visited AC will now say "screw it, I am not going there, the place is dying, or there's nothing there anymore, or its lost its appeal because of all the shuttered EMPTY casinos!"     Walking the length of the Boardwalk is one of the appeals of the place, but now with all these empty hulking buildings, nothing could kill that experience more completely.   AND NOW....all those little shops and vendors along the way, they die too.      and then all the existing surviving casinos LOSE even more customers from the synergy of the whole disaster.......Clearly the state has given up and written off AC.....the whole ridiculous CHARADE put on the last 3-4 years by the "DO AC" false marketing campaign, the so-called empowerment of the newly formed Casino Reinvestment and Development Authority by Governor (more like "give-em-more") Christie to "fix AC", along with his bankrolling the REVEL ....we now see this all HASTENED Atlantic City's fall......what IDIOTS these people were, not only did they not help, they succeeded in speeding up the END of this once great town.    AND NOW THEY ACTUALLY WANT TO BUILD A NEW CASINO in NORTH JERSEY?????    ARe they on Crack or what???    C'mon!!!!!!!  That is just plain ABSURD .... at the very least just put REVEL on pontoons and haul it up the coast and PLOP it on the JERSEY side of the Hudson.   Afterall, it was THE REVEL which started this whole cataclysmic sequence to SPEED up the end for AC.SO I came home early because, EVERYWHERE, EVERYONE is depressed and I could not have fun in such a environment...I'm not joking, you can see and feel it no matter where you go.  I wont even mention the fact that several of the poker events I wanted to play at Ballys so-called "BRANDNEW POKER ROOM" were cancelled......and the room itself was EMPTY most mornings when I showed up ready to play. There is so much more to say on this whole thing but I will wait and allow others to chime in......and DORIS, please, this is really a sad serious situation for all the people who will now have their lives ruined....so please, just stop with the potshots directed at me and, for once, say something relevant and incisive on this mess.  You live there and frequent the place as much as anyone, surely you must have some opinion on this situation?    Back when you were griping about me posting "negative things" about AC, I was seeing this VERY thing unfold.....I've been foretelling this for 3 years on this forum, but at the same time HOPING, even BEGGING for AC to right itself because I could see the GOOD side of it and how nice it could have been.

Several months back you made a pledge and a promise to everyone on this forum that you would discontinue your rants in regards to video poker and how the grass is always greener somewhere else than in Atlantic City. Please keep your word and stifle yourself Daburglar.

We are in Atlantic City now getting ready to catch a plane and head home and I can assure everyone on this forum than what you are describing could not be further from the truth. All the Casinos are packed, the boardwalk is packed and this depressing morose scene you are describing only exists in your own mind. Sure it was overcast and rainy a couple of days we were here but the vibe and feedback I got from most of the people both patrons and Casino employees was mainly positive.

We stayed at Caesar's but did most of our video poker play at Bally's on those 8/5 progressive bonus poker machines that you have in the past described as dreadful. They were not dreadful while we were there. During our play we witnessed numerous royal flushes including one lady right next to us that nailed two royal flushes after drawing 4 to a royal.

We had one royal flush ourself along with numerous other premium hits including drawing a strait flush, numerous hands of 4 aces and were able to play until we were literally tired of playing. Since 4 aces only returns 400 credits in bonus poker it was really not that big a deal but the point is we witnessed lots of people winning.

Again everyone, please take all of Daburglars rants with a grain of salt. He simply does not know what he is talking about. His words are those of a raving lunatic that on one hand says I love Atlantic City and on the other hand blasts Atlantic City every chance he gets. He simply cannot understand that regardless of where you go to gamble the odds are stacked in the favor of the house and that's just the way it is.

chatty,i do believe that you have joined tedlark and me as targets for daburglars rants now. I do not dislike the Burglar but after a while it is the same thing over and over. What he does not realize is that all Casinos are fixed. Unless you are lucky you are supposed to lose. Every trip we take we hope for the best but if we lose we do not dwell on it. The last thing I would want to do is go on and on and on about rigged machines to the point where I would neg myself out so much that the losing would be become a self fulfilling prophesy. This is precisely what is happening to Daburglar. I just wish he would keep it to himself. I do not want any of his back luck vibes.
