I believe the number provided by DaBurglar for 2006 revenues may be inflated by over 1.5 billion. I saw yesterday that the number was closer to 5.7 billion. And I laughably doubt impeachment. More drama.

Edited to add: Tonight I checked the highest revenue number for Atlantic City gaming and it was 5.2 billion in 2006. Just, ahem, slightly(?) lower than the number DaBurglar posted.Yes, you are correct in these figures Ted, I was incorrect in what I cited and, furthermore, I was not specific enough in what I was citing or why.......I apologize, but my point in general still stands and was not compromised by my error.I should have clearly specified GAMBLING REVENUE  versus  TOTAL REVENUE (which would include non-gaming revenue like entertainment, food, lodging and everything else.)  I was quoting and writing from Memory, using figures I saw in a PRESS of Atlantic City  edition from a few months past, which I believe cited a PEAK, 2006 figure of 6.5 to 6.7 billion dollars for TOTAL revenue in the city's hotel/casino segment, AND its related surrounding entities....this is important especially because, as we all know, Atlantic City has been trying to INCREASE its NON-gaming revenue in order to lessen its dependence on gambling, and re-brand and re-market itself as more of an OVERALL entertainment destination.

Hindsight is 20/20. If the taxpayers money could have been redirected from the debacle now known as Revel and spent expanding and upgrading the AC airport, then people from all over could come to AC. I believe the demand is there. AC is a unique gambling destination. I have gambled almost everywhere and AC remains one of my favorite destinations.

AC can use more flights and more airline carriers. But if the airline dosen't see a profit in or the demand to come to AC. They won't add AC to there destination list. United just started flights recently and Spirit Airline has add flights.http://www.sjta.com/acairport/routes.asp

United just started flights recently and Spirit Airline has add flights.http://www.sjta.com/acairport/routes.aspgood point Jim, but here again, Atlantic City needs to get off its arse and take initiative....and by "Atlantic City" in this instance I mean the companies owning the casinos in AC (like CET for instance, and the other parent or controling companies for the Trop, Trump Taj, Resorts, Golden Nuggie, and Borgata)....they need to make an arrangement with the Airlines, much like Vegas did back in the early 1990s, for a temporary subsidy that the hotel casinos give to the airlines in exchange for making a certain amount (or "number") of flights to the destination available to the public, for a specified period of time....this will test the waters, but more importantly (and hopefully) will CREATE the demand and get the public on board for flying to AC once in a while.I doubt this can or will happen, but it would be a step in the right direction......maybe one of the properties, like Borgata (which is managed by Boyd, a Vegas based company that thinks ahead and is not coincidentally, the most successful AC property BY FAR!)A possible half-measure that might still work in the short term is for the airlines (and the casinos themselves) to have PHILADELPHIA be a dump-off / drop-off point, with several regularly scheduled Bus-shuttles going throughout each day specifically to and from AC/Philly....its only about a 60 minute ride, and if the airlines and casinos were to structure it with the right deals and incentives, then people from places like St. Louis, or Chicago, or Denver or ......wherever....essentially all points far away from AC, might conceivably fly to Philly and then ride to AC.    Like I said, if the airlines/casino worked out such a arrangement, it could work.   It has got to be worth a shot, right?   Vegas, before the recession in 2007, was thinking about a second airport all the way out in Primm, on the Cali/nevada stateline, a good 45-50 minutes from Vegas itself...the plan was to have the customers land at the new Airport (call it the "primm Annex") and then Bus or Shuttle them in the 45-50 minute ride to their Vegas hotel.    It would have worked, if the recession had not clobbered the economy and killed the idea.   The plan was to have the new airport in Primm offer lower priced flights to Vegas, thus relieving the congestion (and cost) of a over-taxed McCarran while offering customers a cost savings in exchange for the minor inconvenience of the shuttle ride to and fro.......I think it would have worked, and still might if Vegas continues to recover and stabilize. My point is, a Philly shuttle along the same concept would work if customers get the right incentive (i.e. casino credits for food & play, flight rates that are competitive, etc)  Anyone else have ideas?

I believe the demand is there. AC is a unique gambling destination. I have gambled almost everywhere and AC remains one of my favorite destinations. I totally AGREE with what you just wrote.....and applaud the critical appraisal of how Revel was handled, and what COULD have been achieved.     I also applaud your recognition of the POTENTIAL Atlantic city HAS, even in light of all the so-called "competition" that is surrounding it in other states.    What I said before, about AC essentially being at death's door, is only valid IF....IF the powers that be continue to do what they have been doing, which is all the WRONG things.   I have said I hope I am very wrong about this, but AC will not realize the potential we both agree it has unless they SEIZE upon the advantages they do have and make the most of them....plus CREATE new advantages and opportunities.    They need to recognize they will never make the obscene profits of yester-decade, but CAN achieve enough profit to still be successful and at least SURVIVE without any more casualties......the so-called competition of other states MUST also compete WITH AC!   Therefore, AC should do whatever it takes to get the market share that has abandoned it to return for at least "one more chance".....offer free slot play, offer to MATCH whatever the casinos in Pennsylvania and Delaware, and MAryland are offering players.....offer incentives and bonuses for players with out of state IDs to play and stay......DO WHATEVER it takes!     What have they got to lose at this point?????

As if The Revel hasn't lost enough money...

Armored car company leaves casino cash on roof of truck

GardaWorld, an armored car company, lost nearly $21,000 in cash from the Revel casino in Atlantic City, N.J., after a bag was mistakenly left on the roof of an armored truck on Aug. 6. According to surveillance video, the bag stayed on the roof during the next pick up at Resorts Atlantic City, but was lost sometime thereafter. Las Vegas Sun/The Associated Press (8/19), The Press of Atlantic City (N.J.) (8/19)

They shot themselves in the foot from day one. Never offered other casino players anything.

They shot themselves in the foot from day one. Never offered other casino players anything.very good, and accurate point.......I went to Revel when they first opened and at that time I was a Diamond CET player along with Trump Chairman and Tropicana Elite status...Revel signed me on as the supposed "equivalent rank" in their new system, but I never actually received anything.....EVER!    In fact, no mailers, no emails.....nada.....they were totally clueless when they first opened, and it was brutally clear that this was the case with all the chaos and nonsense that took place during their opening month.   I honestly never went back after that initial visit......

As I read this, I kept asking, "so what DID happen with that bag of cash?"This is something I actually used to daydream about (call it "fantasize" if you want).....I used to wonder whether anyone ever really fond BAGS of money or suitcases full of cash like you see in the movies......I used to wonder what I myself might actually DO if I ever found such cash.......would I return it?  try to hide and keep it?   spend it as fast as possible or hand it out to every person I met as If I was some sort of random public benefactor?what would the rest of you do if you were the one to actually find this bag o' cash?

I would return it because of this little thing called karma, along with my inner voice making my every waking moment miserable wouldn't help matters either.
