Nice Jackpot Makes Lady Mad

Post by FloridaPhil »

I went to the Tampa Hard Rock today with $300 to play my single coin progressive system as always.   I played about 4 hours and just couldn't convert any of my 4 coin wins to max coin profit.  I was able to switch to dollar play a few times and hit one single coin quad deuce for $200 and I had  a few small $50 tickets also.  Around 2:00 PM I did an inventory and found I was up about $75.  I've been playing around lately with $5 machines using my progressive system.  I walked over to the new high limit area and sat down.  Sitting next to me was a classy middle aged lady playing max coin $5 8/5 DDB.  She was shoving money in that machine as fast as she could.   I opened my wallet, took out a $20 bill and put it in the machine at $5 a point.  I clicked one coin and started to play.  As I remember, I got a straight, then three of a kind, then another straight. On the forth hand I was dealt two deuces, held them and the other two came up on the draw for a nice $1,000 win.  As you would imagine, I was very happy with this result.  The lady heard the counter and looked over to see what I had won.  She immediately told me what an idiot I was for playing single coin and that she always "Plays to Win".  "Too bad you didn't play max coins!", she said.  I stood up, walked over to the cash machine, stuffed a handful of hundreds into my pocket and walked away.  A win is a win and I love 'em all...

Great hit Phil, bully for you. You were the last one laughing, as you were stuffing Benjamins into your pocket with a spring in your step.

Still 8/5 DDB at $5? Ugh. One thing she definitely isn't doing is "playing to win"...lol You were playing the better returning game even at one credit.

Still waiting on four deuces when betting a minimum $1.25 a hand though...fml Fortunately that $1.25 bet is sorta rare nowadays with that game.

If I turned a $20 dollar bill into a single coin $5 Royal for $1,250, the only thing I wouldn't be happy about was the W2G.  The only real difference between me and most of the players in that casino is that I am a dedicated single coin low denomination player.   If that lady hits 4 aces for $4,000, I guarantee she will most likely give it back plus a lot more.  After I hit these big jackpots, I add it to my bankroll and go back to my single coin system and play as I normally do.  "The problem with negative expectation video poker games is not a lack of winning; it's losing too much between the wins!"  Think about this a while and you will see my strategy of more about money management than the game itself.

I love playing video poker, but I hate losing.  All I've done is come up with something that lets me enjoy the game without feeling like I want to shoot myself 80% of the time.
