New Orleans Video Poker

Post by theacequeen »

When my husband and I were in New Orleans about 2 years ago, nearly a third of the machines were out of order or malfunctioning. The day before we were to return home, one of the slot attendants told us that all of the VP machines were being moved to a different area and that they were bringing in new machines also. Has anyone been there in the past two years and if so, can you describe the condition/variety of the VP machines (outside of the high roller area). Thanks

We are there right now. All video poker machines appear to be up and running. VPFREE shows some full pay deuces wild at the dollar level that I was going to play. They were supposed to be by the poker room but I never could find them. The best machines I could find were just inside the high limit room. They were 3/5/10 play dollar machines. They had full pay deuces and JOB and 9/6 ddb. Won a little on them but nothing worthy of taking a picture. Most of the machines unfortunately had less than ideal paytables.

Thank you, chatty, for my laugh of the day! And thanks for the info on New Orleans. We had to cancel our plans for a drive to Biloxi, and were thinking of flying down to New Orleans and then taking a side trip to Biloxi. Please keep us posted on your NOLA trip. How was the fishing?

Full Pay Deuces Wild (100.76% > 100%) is illegal in Louisiana, so I think you meant "Not So Ugly Ducks" (99.73%). And remember that means holding two pair and 4 to flushes over pairs with no deuces in that game.    Good luck!

The $1 NSUD 3/5 play is definitely there in the "high limit" area near the tunnel entrance to the hotel. That's the game to play.

As Vman96 already wrote these aren't the "full pay" deuces which are 100.76%. But it sounds like you found the 99.73% NSUD in the high limit area. Have fun!

My beef with Harrah's on our trip there a couple years ago was they had these touch screens where you could order drinks but no Sazeracs or Manhattans, and no one at the casino bar I perched at seemed to have the ingredients or know how to make either. I was forced to walk down to Mr. B's Bistro on Royal where I was fortunate enough to find one of the finest Sazeracs in the Crescent City, and at a reasonable price too. Wish I were there now, I'd get me some BBQ swimp at Maison on Frenchman and dig some tunes...
Just had a nice session playing 100 play STP. Unfortunately it was in the room on vp.com and not in the casino.

How was the fishing?
The fishing was better than the gambling. I did okay. I hit 4 aces on several occasions but never could get the kicker and several near misses on royals. Wife got throttled playing mainly $1 and $5 reels. Quite a few handpays among our group but none for us.

There were four of us that went fishing. Caught mainly redfish. Our guide filleted our catch and we took them to K-Pauls on Chartres St. and they cooked them for us. We had a nice feast that evening. They prepared them with some sort of spicy, buttery, blackened type mixture. It was absolutely wonderful. One of the best meals we have ever had. We will definitely go back.
