Beau Rivage Comp Value?

Post by FloridaPhil »

We get offers from the Beau Rivage in Biloxi every month. I think they'll let you live there if you just gamble in the casino.  The hotel is fantastic, but the VP odds are pretty sorry,  Not the worst we've seen in our travels, but close.  Our 49th anniversary is November 9th, so we are taking them up on their generosity. The trick here is to gamble just enough to stay on the comp list without losing more than the trip is worth.  Three days of VP at max coin quarters, has worked in the past. The games are about 95%, so you are losing about $50 an hour.  Of course you could always get lucky and come home with money.  We think the three night’s hotel room stay, food, fun, Etc. is worth about $700 which equals about 14 hours of quarter play.   Are my numbers right?

Well 7/5 DDB is 95.71% and a recent report from beau rivage says they have that at least. And I'd think you could pay stp with that paytable of that would interest you (maybe even double stp...variance hell...lol).

If you think you lose 50 an hour on a 95%, that means you play at about 800 hands an hour?

I don't know what it takes for a room at beau rivage. And how much other things are they comping? Have you typically played $5,000 coin in a day in the past?

And is your $700 estimate for two of three weekend nights and food? Beau's rates are particularly high on the weekend, obv.

I play about 900-1,000 hands an hour, my wife is a lot slower. Also, she tends to quit when she is losing (wish I could).  We are both on the same player's card, so we look like bigger players to the casino.  Anyway, I play at least 4-5 hours a day at the Beau, so my coin in is probably $5,000 a day or a little more.  If I play single coin quarters, I'm sure they will pull me from the list.   They do have a small 8/5 DDB quarter progressive in the back by the poker room.  The DW games are all 96.69% even in higher denominations. If we lose $500 or $750 in three days, I think we would be about even.   I wish they would boost the VP odds just a little bit, but I don't think that is in the cards.  There are other casinos in Biloxi with much better VP odds.  I play there whenever I can, but I think we owe them something for treating us so well.  Anyone else feel that way?

Well, considering how much the Beau is for the rack rate, I think you get decent value back by running $5000 coin-in per day, especially if the weekend nights are covered. Booking ~far in advance, weekends run $180/night, and weekdays $80/night. And you get 12% tax covered too (maybe the resort fee as well)? So all together, that could be upwards of   So if you're there Fri-Sun, that's about ~$525 or so of retail right there. If ~$200 of food is covered there too, then your theoretical loss for that amount of play is covered by the amount you'd spent there if you didn't gamble there at all. And they still make a little money off you since rooms/food are never valued at retail in their books unless fleas like me buy them.

Beau definitely sets the "bounceback" on those "crappy" machines pretty fairly, it seems to me. And I also wouldn't be surprised if about $5k coin-in/day is a sweet spot for comps. And "free" rooms is the most important thing. You'll have a car; you can eat elsewhere if the Beau costs too much.

Very interesting thread Phil (as are most of your threads).....I like the point you made about "the trick is to play just enough to stay on the comp list" etc.   I also tried to make this very point in my latest AC thread as to why I still play some VP in AC in between my live Poker sessions.   Its still easier to earn free rooms playing enough VP than it is to play Live Poker for 16 hours a day!    If I were to kick up from $2-5 live n/l holdem to say 3-6 or 4-8, I might acheive quicker poker comps but i would expose myself to far greater poker losses out of my comfort zone.I may look into your single coin strategy too as a way to maybe achieve my objective(s) in AC.

We're staying Sunday through Wednesday morning because we don't like crowds.   I think you're right, $5,000 a day coin in is probably where it's at.  Between my wife and I, I'm sure we're safe playing max coin quarters.  I have a tendency to increase my bet if I'm ahead, which is probably another reason why they want me to play there.  This sometimes causes me to lose more, but often it works the other way.   Cherokee must have a similar system as we get monthly offers there also. Ever since the Florida casinos put in real gambling, the out of state offers have increased.  Hope this continues.

I haven't really looked at it from the comp point of view, but strictly from gaming the Beau is about the worst in Biloxi. Yes, if you look hard you can find a few machines that are better, but almost all of what they have is lower than the rest of the coast, so on my few trips to Biloxi I just avoid that place. IP used to have the best paytables in Biloxi for high limit, but not any more. Now for decent $5 action I go to Silver Slipper, a little out-of-the-way casino in Hancock County, about 25-30 miles east of Biloxi.

Love the Silver Slipper. Nice drive along the beach and well worth the trip.  The best deuces wild odds are at the Palace casino.   You can find 9/6 quarter jacks around town if you look.  I know the Gulf View in Gulfport has it at the bar.   The Margaritaville casino had great VP odds, but I have heard it closed.  Because of the stinky odds, I hate playing VP at the Beau Rivage.   The hotel and staff are so nice that we put up with it.  It might be good thing if I'm pulled off the comp list, Then I can pay for the room myself and play at the other casinos.  As they say "There is no free lunch!"

Phil, at one time IP high limit had the best tables in town. I would actually bring people with me from Laughlin to play there on occasion, so that should tell you something. However, in recent years they have pulled the stuffing out of their paytables. (I am originally from south Mississippi, born and raised there. I own a property there. My joke is that it used to be an improved property....before Katrina. lol)
