Hollywood Casino, St. Louis
We like the Hollywood Casino in Kansas City, Kansas and are thinking about heading to the renovated Hollywood Casino in St. Louis since it has a hotel. I know it was formerly Harrah's and we are not fans of Harrah's. Has anyone been to the Hollywood in St.Louis recently? Are the VP machines upstairs like they are in Kansas City. How is the smoke? Any information would be helpful.

Hollywood Casino STL is just one floor for gaming, but the floor is much bigger than the Harrah's in KC which is two floors.
Smoke...meh, average for a "smoking" casino. Maybe a little bit worse than Hollywood Kansas Speedway, which I mean as more of a negative statement on the mediocre ventilation at KS Speedway for a "newer" casino, imo. I think KS Speedway looks nicer than STL. But STL is decent looking for being a "converted" Hollywood.
Hotel is same Harrah's so the rooms are a bit dated, but I think they might be working on the rooms now?? Don't quote me on that though. Rooms in the "Rodeo" Tower are significantly nicer than the "Sunset" Tower assuming no renovations, which it looks like they charge $30 extra a night rack rate for the nicer rooms.
VP Paytables are superior to KS Speedway if you are playing the best available games. Some of the best game kings are very easy to spot because they have a overhead sign advertising the payback. Best game by payback in the entire casino is 9/5 Triple Bonus Plus (99.80%).
There is also a bank of 8 Game King slant-tops that have 6 full pay games at the 25c and 50c level in the middle of the main VP section near multistrike machines, just to the left to an ATM.

Also Ameristar is 5 minutes away, and that is also a nice casino with lots of video poker with some full pay at the quarter level. The general layout of that casino is quite similar to Ameristar KC.

GREAT INFO. THANKS MUCH..WE MAY GIVE IT A TRY. AS IS WE STAY AT ARGOSY, COMP, BUT LIKE HOLLYWOOD BETTER SO A BIT OF FREEWAY DRIVING FOR US "OLD" GALS. I'LL SEE IF STL WILL COMP US.

Hi Royal,
I haven't been for a couple of years but doubt it's changed much...We went several times on the charter air flight from our area. The machines are not great. There was one bank of quarter progressive and some triple play machines. Like a lot of the Casinos in that area they do not cater to VP players. For an evening or one afternoon it's ok, but if you are a more serious player or are concerned about low pay tables it's not so good. The casino itself is nice enough. Good food and the rooms were acceptable. No coffee pots in the room and a LONG hike to the coffee station in the lobby. The VP machines are spread out. A few here and a few there. Older machines unless they have updated lately. It is such that we decided to not return even thought we get the free air and room offer. If you are driving it might be worth a stop. I actually liked the IP better. Although they had limited VP machines the ones they had were fun. You can shuttle there or take a cab for a small price. Our trips were usually two days. We arrived in the evening and after playing for one evening I was ready to go somewhere else the next day. By the second day I was bored, and I seldom get bored in a good casino...Hope that helps.

I live in FLA, and visit the Beau in Biloxi about once a month. Great golf course (Fallen Oak), terrific steakhouse (BR), and very friendly folks.
Not many great VP paytables in Biloxi in general, although some of the higher denoms at some casinos are OK. The truth is, I win MORE on poorer paytables than I do on better paytables. Go figure.
