Anybody ever win a drawing?

Anybody ever win a drawing?

Post by FloridaPhil »

The Hard Rock where I normally play has drawings about once a month.  I've seen people win there, but I never have. A couple of years ago I sat next to a lady when she won a pretty nice car.  Have you ever won anything good in a casino drawing?

Wow!   That must have been cool. A friend and I won a rigged boat in a bass tournament years ago.  As I remember it was a big PIA.  We had to sell the boat before the end of the year so we could pay the taxes.  Did you sell the Nissan?

We kept it until earlier this year. We tend to keep a car a long time. We got a w2g and had to pay income tax on it. We were able to only pay a fee of $10 as a gift tax fee as opposed to having to pay a sales tax on it as you would if you purchased the car. We were very happy about that as that saved us quite a bit we were expecting to have to pay.

We thought about taking the cash in lieu of the car but even though this was not the ideal vehicle we would have purchased we figured how often do you win a car. We had a Toyota 4 runner we chose to sell instead that was less than a year old. My wife never liked it. Even though it was worth 10,000 more than the one I won.

I have actually won quite frequently, including a couple of times at Hard Rock Tampa years ago when I used to play there after they first brought in Class III VP machines. I have also won multiple drawings for FreePlay at The Beau Rivage in Biloxi. I even won a Sony 52" flat screen at Horseshoe Hammond in a New Year's Eve drawing, and I wasn't even there.

Unfortunately, I did not win the live horse at Tunica Roadhouse earlier this year. REALLY wanted that one. Did get a selfie with the "Rodeo Clown of the Year", though

Nope, never won a random promo drawing. But many contests' entries are weighted by your amount of play, and I'm totally screwed with those.

My g/f was one digit off on winning $7500 in Tunica earlier this year though... They drew 3 numbers and if they matched the last 3 of your players card, you won the prize.

In 2008, I won $2000 in slot machine play credits (a name drawn every hour for 10 hours, every person had an equal chance) at Morongo Casino Resort (one of California's Big 4 casinos, but not a great place for Video Poker) on a recession promotional event. I was able to win $2300 from it without any W2Gs, but playing slots has higher negative expectations so the winnings were short lived.

Now that casino took that initiative and offers a weekly drawing on Sunday nights or the following Monday if it is a holiday where they offer 8 $1000 slot play drawings every half hour from 6pm with the final drawing at 10pm for a luxury car; it switches between Lexus/BMW/Mercedes/Jaguar/Chevorlet/Infiniti, worth more than $40k. Every $1 coin in for slots or $2 coin in for VP will earn an entry from Monday to the Sunday drawing, there is no limit on entries, so high rollers have the advantage theoretically; but they put the drawing at the most inconvenient times because people cannot stay late for work on Monday mornings. There have been low rolling penny slot players who've won the luxury car as a result.

The fact I was told is 90% of the people who win the luxury car will take the cash option of $32,000. I do not know about W2G, the winner for the car takes on a 1099 since it was not gambled money or a wager to net them the car.

This casino was severely struggling between 2007 and 2010, but since they've introduced this promotion every week for the past 4 years and it will not stop, they've turned their operations around significantly and other casinos are following their model. Not much empty seats on the weekends any more since anyone has a good chance at winning a car, even a 19 year old student from a nearby college who played $10 worth of slots.

Never won in a drawing, but a few years ago at Mohegan I played in one of those what I call stupid mindless 10 minute slot torunaments where you just pound the keys on a regular slot until the buzzer goes off. I didn't even check the results then later in the day someone called my cell to tell me I had won the 5k jackpot. I have only played in one or two since then and no dice, but that was a really good day.
