I was in AC over the days from 11/20  thru  11/22.....I stayed two nights at Taj in the Chairmans tower and made sure to use up all my comp dollars (well almost all,  I started with a balance of 189 comp dollars and when I checked out I had 11 left....)   Of course, this means I had to indulge in eating one of Robert's Steakhouse's ridiculously overpriced and overrated meals, buying a 55 dollar steak, to go with my 12 dollar mashed potatoes and 5 dollar cup of coffee!  Oh yeah, they even charged me 2 bucks for a thimble of their Garlic& herb butter steak sauce dressing......  My total bill was 81 bucks....the same exact meal would have been 50 bucks at Gallaghers in Resorts, and the quality and taste of the steak would have been superior at Gallaghers.    Oh well.....I'm not saying the food at Roberts was bad, it was good, but NOT great, and certainly not worth what they charge or what they claim they embody.Anyway, needless to say, all the Trump employees who would even consider talking about their situation were depressed and downtrodden.....people whom I have known for several years and become good friends with (insomuch as my stays and time in the Taj allowed) were noticeably annoyed with the whole situation, both union and non-union workers and management........surprisingly (or not depending on your perspective and political viewpoint), EVERYONE seemed to blame BOTH sides equally for allowing this situation to deteriorate and devolve to the point where it is at now, where there seems to be only BAD choices all around.Union 54 Local president Mcdeavit is apparently a very stubborn, unimaginative, belligerent guy, and Icahn is a detached, cold blooded greedy billioniare....that is if you listen to both sides of the issue and their portrayal of the other side.   Me personally, I know the TRUTH is somewhere right down the middle of both of these extreme perceptions.    Also, Governor Chris Christie is now almost universally despised in AC no matter who you talk to......go figure.December 4 is apparently the new final cutoff for saving the Taj.....with the latest concession from Icahn and the Taj ownership (i.e.  restoring Health benefits) it would seem the UNION should give in and drop their appeal and agree  to keep the Taj going and allow Icahn to implement his plan to invest heavily in upgrading and renewing much of the property.....but from what I understand about just how stubborn (as well as selfish, egotistical and even greedy Mr Mcdeavit is himself), he probably will not go along.    If that happens, I will switch from being neutral (more or less) to being decidely ANTI-Union (not neccessarily PRO Icahn)

They broke ground on the MGM project that will be built in my neighboring Springfield, Massachusetts locale......Springfield, by the way, is home to the basketball Hall Of Fame (where the game was invented), and is filled with many historical sights and scenery (a much smaller version of Boston of course, but still interesting if you like History like I do....)   If any of you ever visit Springfield, I highly recommend old Sturbridge Village with its Colonial Lifestyle going all year round, and I DEFNITELY suggest checking out the Springfield Armory with its vast array of weaponry built since the revolutionary war through the Vietnam War....this was one of the primary armories of the nation throughout the USA's existence, and if you really are a gun enthusiast/2nd amendment nut you do not want to miss it!   AS for me, I really love military history so the place is special for me in that sense.....

Awesome to hear DaBurglar, your home state has a ton of history behind it, I hope to able to explore some of it in the future, hopefully around the time when local star Kobe Bryant gets inducted. You must be pretty stoked about this new MGM establishment being nearby.

My nearby three casinos are about 60 miles away.

I would love to have that Gatling Gun featured on Pawn Stars right in the middle of my living room. I love history especially military history too. My trouble is remembering all of the little details until you get your memory jogged a little from another fan.

Better wait a bit until I hit a Megabucks I guess. Right now, I could buy a cartridge or two for a couple of the barrels and that would only be if they were reloads. By the way, I think the expert gal who they call in to look at rare books is cute. I wonder if they have any vp machines in the store. I have a really old machine from an English Beer Hall that pays off in the old large English pennies. Funny thing is the max payout is 6 cents just like the games I play at Mohegan.

thanks alpax....but NO, I am definitely not stoked about this MGM "project" that is taking shape.   The actual facility will not be operational until 2017,  and until then the entire process of building it is going to create untold problems with traffic and overall messiness.   But even worse......I have been studying the impact that single, stand alone facilities like the MGM-Springfield actually have on the surrounding economy , and whether or not all the "ballyhoo" that casinos shout about the BENEFITS and growth opportunities for the economy are really true.      My conclusions thus far, taking into account ALL perspectives, is that projects like this MGM springfield deal are, at best, a "wash" in terms of whether the benefits outweigh the costs,  and at worse, they can actually drag a local economy into the abyss (Hello DETROIT!.....and Philly soon to follow)it is different when the build SEVERAL casino complexes and turn a entire region/city/town  into an actual gambling destination.    That creates economies of scale and synergy, as well as simply the sheer size of the thing, that creates a type of momentum and growth that is an entity unto itself........but sticking a single large Casino complex in the middle of otherwise stagnant and depressed urban area can end up sucking up what little opportunity for growth exists, and end up "sucking up" far too much discretionary/disposable income while not at all regurgitating nearly enough of that same income BACK OUT INTO the local economy.    It is actually that simple.......people pump money into a single casino like MGM Springfield at a rate that far exceeds the ability of the same casino to redistribute that money into the local community.    The worst part is (that no one in Springfield, or Massachusetts) seems to get is companies like MGM, are NOT in the business of helping communities recover economically......and yet if you listen to their propaganda, as well as listen to the people who will benefit locally, you'd thing MGM's purpose in life was to help other people get back on their feet!!!!!   lol     Can you believe that??!?!the MGM Springfield Casino, once it is built, and then up and operational, will be obliged ONLY to itself and (more ominously) its corporate parent all the way out in Nevada.....THAT is where a huge chunk of the disposable income of the people of Springfield Massachusetts will end up, out in some Nevada dessert where it will help a few executives buy a new Mercedes or BMW at a dealership in Henderson......All that aside, I prefer to reserve my own personal gambling-for-entertainment for when I go on actual trips/getaways/vacations to destinations like AC, Nevada or even upstate New York to a place like Turnung Stone. To simply go down the street and then plop my crippled arse in front of a machine for several hours and then come right back home has ZERO appeal to me and is about as much fun as root canal......But hey alpax, since you seem to be a LA Lakers fan, when Kobe gets inducted, I will invite you and anyone else to Springfield and we can have a full day of activity capped off by a visit to the MGM springfield!   Maybe Billyjoe can charter us a boat to sail up and down the Connecticut River (which runs through Springfield and adjacent to the Basketball hall of fame and the new MGM site.)
