MEGABUCKS HIT

Post by hspencer »

MAGBUCKS HIT AT A LOCAL CASINO SUNDAY NIGHT. I'M SAYING THIS BECAUSE I AM VERY DISSAPOINTED WITH THE FAMILY THAT HIT IT! THE MAN THAT WON IT DECIDED TO TAKE A LUMP SUM WHICH MEANS HE TOOK HOME MORE THAN $8M AFTER ALL WAS SAID AND DONE. SECURITY HAD TO SIT WITH THE MAN FOR MORE THAN 5 HOURS UNTIL THE JACKPOT WAS VERIFIED. COCKTAILS SERVED HIM, SLOT TECHS ENTERTAINED HIN AND THE MAN TIPPED NONE OF THEM. NOT A SINGLE DOLLAR AS A THANK YOU FOR BEING THERE. I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND THAT A TIP IS NOT MANDATORY BUT CONSIDERING THESE EMPLOYEES WORK FOR TIPS AND MOST DON'T MAKE ENOUGH MONEY TO PLAY MEGABUCKS OR AN EQUIVELANT, SHOW SOME GRADITUDE!!!!!

Dude said he was giving all the money away anyway. So the 10k or whatever he didn't tip will make the new church he is going to fund slightly nicer. Currently he goes to church in a high school gym.

Also keep in mind this guy probably gambles so infrequently, he likely doesn't realize it is customary to tip here. I didn't know it was until I started to read gambling forums. But if he got alcohol while waiting and still didn't tip, then yeah screw that guy. He should realize waitresses still get tipped from going to restaurants.

Sorry you or your family members/coworkers didn't get tipped, hspencer...lol

It is amazing the family burdens some of the waitresses and waiters carry at home. Most live in lower blue collar areas just a few minutes from the casino ( Mohegan Sun ). They really rely on tips just to try and make ends meet. Many have serious domestic situations, family illnesses, and other sad stories, yet are somehow cheerful and upbeat with the patrons. I almost think work is an escape for some of them from their home situations. I never pry into their personal lives, but some of them have known and served me for so many years, they just open up to me if they have a few minutes when it is slow. I can tell they are not telling their stories just to get more tip money either. I have been around the bolck too long not to recognize that line. One of my favorite waitresses even drops a bottle of water for me every so often and refuses to take a tip because I didn't order it. She says I look a lot like her dad and she doesn't want me to get dehydrated. She is right on that note too. Anyway, I make sure I do order something so I can tip her before her shift is over. The only point I am making here in this somewhat long rant is that people in the service business survive on tips and while you don't have to go overboard, it is nice to recognize pleasant and prompt service.

Yes, but I'm sure you will make up for it by checking out some of the beautiful scenery out there.

Excellent post, and NO, it was not a "too long rant".....you nicely illustrated the larger issues at work here, while also sharing your personal perspective and feelings in a meaningful, NON-obnoxious fashion.I'd just point out though, that in today's society/world there are MANY people in many different occupations besides being a waitress who are dealing with many challenges and turmoil.  You touched upon the fact that oftentimes, people just want someone to talk to and to vent.....your willingness to listen to them and interact, instead of shooing them away so you can keep gambling (something a lot of jaded, professional gamblers usually do) , no doubt touches them and they respond accordingly.

Your point is so true. Life is not fair unfortunately. All we can do is make the best of it.

I concur. Tipping is something many service people rely upon and unless they do something atrocious, we always tip the max. the ones I feel sorry for are the folks in the fast food, self-serve eateries within casinos who often do not get tips. We always give them a tip recognizing they work as diligently as servers.

How often I see their usually homeade tip jar empty when I order a bagel and coffee or just get a takeout pizza. Those people not only work really hard, it is non stop and thankless. Their jar is never empty when I leave.
That reminds me of a story and I'm sure many people have similar ones. My first job was picking strawberries when I was 9. We got a nickel a basket and the baskets were pretty good size too. The tips were good though. All the strawberries we wanted to eat. After the 3rd day, we really got tired of them.
My next job when I was 10 was much better. I had a job delivering TV guides just like a paper route. The guide was only 15 cents back then and money was real tight for everyone. There were usually no tips, but one older lady who always answered the door so she could pay, tipped me every week either with an Indian Head penny or sometimes a Buffalo nickel. At Christmas, she would give me a Standing Liberty Quarter and let me keep all of it. I think about 12 cents of the 15 cents for the guide had to go back to the TV guide company out of my own pocket when I got that quarter. I still have all 3 of them.
