Re: LUCK VS. STRATEGY

Post by JaxSax »

I think it's both luck and strategy. Having played some on Test your Skills and "learning" program, I've learned more, but in my opinion luck is the big factor. A friend who knows I'm a little addicted to this website asked me if I had ever used the "cheat" software. Had never heard of it. But No Way! Easy to feel close to players who play same games and get excited when they are on top too. So not fair. Hope this doesn't sound like a sermon.   I enjoy Forum and learn a lot from you.   Thanks.

Luck is the biggest factor in winning the contests on this site but strategy is also important. If you place second in a contest and the winner was only 10 or 20 points ahead of you one hand where you held the wrong cards could have made the difference.

Some people may think it's cheating, but I play the contests not only to win but to improve my video poker skills. I always have a strategy chart nearby so that if I'm dealt a hand I'm not sure of, I'll check to see the correct hold. If I've had to check it a few times I start remembering the correct play and that is a great help on my next trip to the local casino.

I'm not sure what you're refering to when you say "cheat programs." If they are programs that tell you the right cards to hold in a particular game the only advantage I can see is that it would allow you to play a lot faster than looking it up on a strategy chart.

If that's not what you're talking about could you let me know exactly what a "cheat program" is?

From what I have been able to gleen from the internet and from the guy at best buy. the program basically will get whatever cards you want dealt to you dealt. He also told me there are other programs that will get you whatever draw cards you want. That is cheating.

Bing returned over 31 million hits. The few that I read said that the cheating was in poker rooms where you play against other people, not like the VideoPoker.com contests where it's you against the machine.

If you really can cheat on this site then so be. The real test is your play at the casino's!!Winning at the casino's takes luck, strategy, some special plays and good money management. I always look for a machine that's on a hot streak. I don't care what the math people say, you are only at the casino for a short time. Don't wait for the machine to finely come around. Find the machine that's ready to play with you.

[QUOTE=Sporqi]What is more important, LUCK or strategy in getting a high score.  I think it is luck.  If you do not have a Royal or high four  of a kinds dealt you will not get a high score.

[/QUOE]           Luck or a cheat program.

Strategy yes, but timing is more important ie. Luck

As stated strategy keeps you in the game longer but I'll take the crucial nano-second timing when dealt those big hands. Are there ways to impact your timing. I believe there are ways that can impact your timing.
