Post by DaBurglar »

I am planning a trip to RENO in APRIL.....when I am in Vegas the last week of February and first week of March I intend to spend a little time setting up the details for a subsequent trip to Reno the following month or so.....Who has recently been to RENO?!?!?   Anyone planning on being their on or around April 3 through 12???I'd like any and all recent info since it has been a while I was last in Reno (but it was always one of my all time favorite place to play Video Poker!)What places are the best in Reno these days for VP and other casino action?   Any good food options as of late?    Thanks in advance

Reno is my favorite place!  The best place to stay is the Peppermill.  Great hotel with beautiful rooms and amenities.  The casino has everything you could want.  I love playing the VP at the bar overlooking the sports book.  In the evening, my favorite is the Terrace with quiet live entertainment overlooking the pool area.  Many great restaurants.  And good players club.  You will love it!

Last time Mrs. Minn and I were there several years ago we stayed at the Atlantis down the street from the Peppermill, on their dime off a VP.com sponsored contest as it happens. Didn't get to the Peppermill but did get downtown. There was plenty of full-pay VP for the playing, unfortunately I recycled my VP +EV at the green baize table. Wherever you wind up check out Atlantis's seafood place in the overpass between the casino and parking lot. We rented a car one day and toured Virginia City and Lake Tahoe, both nearby and worth a visit. It was 2010 as I recall, the 100th anniversary of the Jack Johnson-Jim Jeffries heavyweight fight.

We are planning a trip to Reno/Taho later this year for our 50th wedding anniversary.  From what we have read so far, we will probably stay at the Peppermill. We have never played full pay deuces before and are really looking forward to the experience.   Any more Reno information would be greatly appreciated.

Well I am not going now until my next trip to Vegas, where I will try to spend a couple days in Reno/Tahoe (fly up from Vegas ...)When are you going Phil???     Reno really truly is a special place, in my opinion, just solely in terms of GAMBLING, it is the best place to play and stay.....better games, without the BS of Vegas and its "Disneyland on Acid" feel......

We are going to Reno in early November.   Late April we will be in Blackhawk CO. Summer is usually Cherokee NC.  We both love video poker.  Winning big jackpots is not our goal. We like the casino environment and enjoy being together without the phone ringing all day.  It's really pretty cheap if you keep things under control.

I don't mind if the cell phone rings at the casino and it is the Mrs. That usually means she hit a really nice hand. It is really amazing how the time flys by when we are there.

Just to satisfy my curiosity, how do you practice your Cheap Video Poker strategy while at Cherokee. On my only visit there (2 or 3 years ago) the only place I could find a quarter VP machine was at the bar. The machines on the floor were all higher denomination machines.

Or have they switched to the new Multi-Denomination machines?

We played at the Cherokee Harrahs last fall and had no problem finding single line quarter VP.  As I remember they had a couple of 9/5 quarter DDB machines hidden in front of the little cafe in the back.  9/5 DDB is almost a 2% better game than the crappy deuces schedule they have at the Beau Rivage.   I always check around a lot before I play anywhere. For example, I discovered two quarter DW machines hidden at the Tampa Hard Rock with 4/4 125 coin wild deuce jackpots.   They were hard to find, but they are there and no one seems to notice the difference.  Scouting can sometimes be as much fun as playing.

That is true Phil. I remember a while back looking for some good paying Deuces Wild machines over at Foxwoods at the quarter or lower level, but they were all 10/8/4/4 which I hate and won't play and a couple of 16/13/4/3/2 machines that I will play when desperate. I don't remember how long it took me to get back to Mohegan Sun, but I don't think the car had warmed up yet. I haven't been back to Foxwoods since, but have to go at least once or my few points will expire real soon. At least I will be able to fill the tank on them and grab a burger and shake while I am there.
